Many of you know the benefits of upgrading as opposed to buying cards. Buying cards just adds more cards to your deck and so the likelihood that you will draw the right card at the right time is reduced when you just buy a bunch of cards. Upgrading improves those odds by allowing you to replace a weak card with a stronger card while keeping your deck size low so your draws improve.

Here we have the Medical Tricorder, which allows you to take a Character in your discard area whose cost is less then or equal to the Character that uses this card, and upgrade that Character in the discard area. This may seem a little complicated but it isn’t really that difficult to understand once you try it out a few times. One great combo with this card is to buy a Character and then instantly upgrade that Character to an even better one from the Space Deck.Imagine you have a Commander and a Lieutenant in your bridge. You spend that 5 XP to buy a Commander, then place this Medical Tricorder with your Commander in the bridge as the user. Finally, take that Commander you just bought from your discard area and upgrade him to a Character in Starbase costing up to 7.

An amazing card, and design space I haven’t seen in a dbg before. It also seems costed safely but I’m willing to bet is one of the more powerful cards in the set. I can’t wait to pick these up from starbase!
