ST TOS Preview #12 : Oh Captain My Captain!

Assuming you read the title of this blog, you would probably be expected to see your favorite TOS captain. However this particular captain is often not remembered as well as Kirk.

He may not have become the Legendary Captain that Kirk did, but he was a captain who cared for his crew and ship and paid a very heavy price for it.

Christopher Pike was his name and Spock went to extreme odds for this captain. He may have ended up like this:

But he started out like this:

He has the worth stats of a Captain of the Enterprise and his effect allows you to buy him at a fraction of the printed cost if you complete a Mission. Once you have him in your deck, he will offer to you his experience.

Please let us know what you think if today’s preview and come back soon to see more previews.

Getting a 9 cost character for 6 just because you completed a mission is pretty weak IMHO. I think if you pass (not fail) a event card this turn then maybe you could get him at the reduced cost.

It seems like it should be when you buy him from Star Base that he gives you XP to spend that round then gives a smaller XP bonus every round you put him on your bridge.

He looks cool and I’m sure he will get a lot of action in our future games. Just think he is just a little OP.

It’s a little early to determine whether any card is overpowered relative to the TOS Premiere set, but Pike compares fairly well to Picard (TNG Premiere). Pike gives you more speed than Picard’s +2, but most of the time you’re going to complete a mission or diplomacy a starship when Picard hits the bridge. I’m willing to hold judgment in terms of power level until we see more cards from the set.

I like all I’ve seen so far and specially the different design on the cards.
I also like the fact that it has some different playing elements than in TNG games.
    Looking forward to play it.
