    Beat the Borg Last night

Played 4 games over 8+ hours of Borg Mode with a couple of my friends last night and it was just ridiculous. Finally after changing up our tactics (several Times) we were able to conquer the Borg.

We have beat the Borg before but this is the first time we used all of the rules. So it felt good.

Very nice. Like, VERY nice. I am fully and appropriately impressed.

I'm looking forward to getting another four people together who love ST, and who can also grasp the intricacies of strategic gaming. Until then, I'm not even going to try. You have my envy, and sincere congratulations, because apparently resistance was fully warranted.

3 players. 11 borg cubes destroyed. 0 players eliminated. Scenario complete. When all the players really know what they're doing, the scenario is very beatable as is. I look forward to trying it again, as well as to the updated version in The Next Phase.

The next time we beat the Borg, I'd like to do it with a full group.

did you do random starter ships or did each player pick their own?

We did it with random ships. If I remember correctly, we had the nebula, the miranda, and the oberth.

This is the strategy my group came up with last time we faced the Borg (but it got too late for us to finish the game). It hasn't been put to the test yet, so I'd like the opinions of people who have beaten the Borg.

The player with the Oberth class starship goes for trashing cards, like System Improvements, to keep his teammates from dying from Borg cards.

The player with Excelsior class starship goes for diplomacy, to gain starship upgrades to share with his teammates. After all teammates have upgraded ships, he transitions to Speed and Attack characters to help fight Locutus.

The player with the Miranda class starship goes for straight economy in the early game to help buy cards for his teammates, who are more focused on defending against cubes.

Of the other two players, one focuses on getting +shields cards, to absorb cube damage when needed, and the other focuses on +speed and +attack cards, to destroy cubes and help against Locutus. That player, combined with the higher ship stats and good attack cards of the Excelsior player, should be able to take care of any cubes that get drawn.
