I feel my group is playing wrong.

I was at a Con where my local game store was demoing this game. I first learned from them how to play from them, then started learning more and playing apart from the store group. Now that I was playing with them I felt that the store is not playing the game correctly but wont listen to me. I just want to have the official rulings on things so I can prove it to them.

    1) When upgrading a card using a card (i.e. Starfleet Academy) The old card get's trashed and the new card goes in your discard pile. Am I correct? (If you'll please just number and let me know if I'm right or wrong, that would be appreciated)

    2) In a war event all players are involved in that war whether they want to be or not.

    3) In war people choose there targets and deal damage in order of speed and everyone gets to attack regardless of being destroyed before there turn to attack in that war even.

    4) You only get to target and damage one ship in war regardless of how many are playing.

    1) Yes.

    2) Yes.

    3) No. Deal damage in order of speed (unless it's the war event that tells you do deal damage in order of Diplomacy). If you are destoryed before it's your turn to do damage, then you don't. A destroyed ship cannot fire photon torpedoes.

    4) Yes (unless you played Gowron).

Just to further clarify, specific rulebook sections where these answers can be found:

    1) Page 24 - definition of "Upgrade"

    2) Page 16 - "Event effects can vary, some will require you to meet a goal, others can cause a battle between all players." - its odd that the wording of the WAR explanation doesn't specify all players, but that is the intention.

    3) Page 18 - "a player whose flagship has been defeated cannot perform any additional actions or interact with other players until the start of the next turn." - despite this rules text being from the Borg Invasion section, it has since been clarified that it applies to any time a flagship is defeated.

    4) Page 16 - "Starships will deal damage equal to their Attack in the order of their Speeds, starting with the highest. If some Starships are tied in Speed, they will deal damage at the same time, but assigning damage is done in clockwise order, starting with the turn player." - along with Gowron's card text - "You may divide your damage among any number of battling starships." - states that all damage must be applied to a single target, unless a superseded by a card ability.

XP is the next thing. I'm being told by them that when one up grades or trashes a character that gives XP, that has already been played to ones bridge, you don't get the XP for that character anymore even though it's XP was not spent yet. (I'm just trying to get us to play by the correct rules and so far it's been me verse them.)

Also interesting is that the video is the only source that tells you that an upgraded card goes to your discard pile and all the other official non-forum rules just tell you you trash the one card then gain the next card. I'm hoping they clarify a lot of the rules in the next expansion.

"Gain" in the context of the rules means to take a card from Starbase and place it in your discard pile, unless a card effect states otherwise. This is stated multiple times in the rulebook. (Page 13, Page 24)

XP from basic characters and other card effects is just that - an effect - and wouldn't you know it? The rules have something to say about those, too. Any card effect that comes into play stays in play until the end of that player's turn - regardless of whether the card itself remains in play. Therefore, any XP you gain from basic characters stays well beyond any upgrading or other trashing/discarding you might do of them. (See Page 13 and 14 of the rulebook, specifically the order in which end-of-turn steps are applied...say, that sounds familiar...)

I have a question as well if you don't mind:

Page 16 - "Starships will deal damage equal to their Attack in the order of their Speeds, starting with the highest.

Does this mean that you automatically assign damage to the player "after" you in a clockwise fashion - or is this the order that player pick their targets for damage?

    Thanks!

It's the order that players pick their targets. It doesn't really matter, however, as mutual destruction is a valid outcome.
