Level 2 Diagnostic vs the Borg

Any clarification on how this is intended to work? You are only forced to trash L2 at the end of combat occurs on another players turn, you will never have to discard it as it is always your turn (or your team's turn). If you can leave it on your bridge for the whole scenario it seems overpowered. If you have to discard it after the first borg cube, its nearly useless.

It also gets trashed if you get blown up, but I think that's the only way it would get trashed in Borg mode. I should also point out that Borg cubes need to be one-shotted by either a single player or a bunch of players with the same speed otherwise they regenerate between shots. Those Borg cards go quickly and when the pile runs out you lose.

My group has never succeeded at Borg mode even with multiple handicaps. IMO, with regeneration along with the cubes damage rolling over amongst the players, Borg mode is essentially impossible.

This is, sort of, a version discrepancy then. I had not actually looked at the Next Phase Borg scenario. I've mixed the starbase cards from both decks but played only the Premier Borg scenario. IMHO, the L2 Diag still seems overpowered in Borg I, but I guess it depends on how/when you get it out. Having now looked at Borg II, I can see where L2 is more likely to be lost via destruction. So, not overpowered in that scenario, but you could still get a fair amount of milage from it.

Really need all the overpoweredness that one can get against the Borg. Did you beat them, and if so, what strategy did you use?

Only played once. Beat 8 cubes, but eventually lost because I was focusing on ship maneuvers. Couldn't take down Locutus because I didn't have enough character cards.

I've beaten both Borg Invasions between the 2 TNG versions of the game (Locutus & Borg Queen). While they are difficult, more players makes everything easier. Also, the Locutus version is easier than the Borg Queen version, so maybe that's your problem? 2 player Borg is tough and at times feels impossible, but is still possible. Sometimes its luck of the draw and cards like the Probe (let's you look at and rearrange the top 3 cards in Space Deck) are amazing in this.

Basic strategy tips, have each player specialize in 1 main role. In the Locutus Borg Invasion (first Borg Invasion set), have 1 player get the starting Starship that allows them to 'trash' 1 card in hand or discard area of another player. Then have that same player stock up on cards like the Binars (Systems Upgrades, allowing you to trash up to 2 cards in your discard area, which is only a 4XP cost card). That way 1 player can be the key trasher of Borg Cards that your team acquires.

Usually another player works on getting high Diplomacy and takes the basic Starship that allows them to transfer another Starship of lesser points to another player. Makes upgrading your ships easier. Another player can take the other basic Starship that allows you to transfer 1 gained item from Starbase to another player per turn (then this player focuses on getting Commanders and is the 'high roller' for the game buying up great stuff).

Depending on which basic Starships you start with, that should play directly into the strategy of how each player focuses their style of play. Just like in the TV show, each Officer has a function and follows the Captains orders. Play with that same level of teamwork and with a little luck you'll be kicking Borg Cubes back into the Delta Quadrant!
