Ship Hijacking Clarification

A friend has sent me here asking for some clarification on the card 'Ship Hijacking.' (Note: I'm not very familiar with the STDBG so bear with me, I've barely played it.) He basically wants to know if it's affect (something along the lines of making a starship yours) only occurs once, on the next starship, or if it's usable for the rest of the game since the text says the effect lasts the rest of the game.

It triggers the next time you defeat a starship from the Space deck. This can be any number of turns after the mission is done. Once it's triggered and you got a new ship, it won't trigger again. You can only get one ship from "Ship Hijacking", or it would be called "Ship Hijackings"
