Keeping more than 5 cards in hand after war

Another player drew a card from space deck which caused a war and gave the player with the lowest points two extra cards. It said draw two cards, so I assume this meant that the player with the lowest points draws two cards from their draw pile into their hand giving them 7 cards to work with. If this is the case, suppose that player chose not to play any cards during the battle. They did not win the battle, but their ship was not destroyed (and remember it is not their turn currently). Can that player simply hold onto the seven cards until their turn and play them all as normal?

Also I can't remember the exact text now from that card, but what if there were multiple players tied for lowest points?

As far as I know, they can choose to not play anything. I think that card says "players with the least mission points draw 2 cards". My group often has 1 player in the lead and everybody else with zero MP drawing cards.

You only have to go back to 5 cards at the end of YOUR turn, so you can keep those 7 cards in your hand for the next turn if the war happened during another players turn. It's the same as if another player makes you draw a card (or gives you an extra card to your hand), you get to keep those cards until the end of your next turn.

    Indeed!

My group often has 1 player in the lead and everybody else with zero MP drawing cards.
My group usually has one or two stragglers so in that case both would draw two.

    Card draw ftw!

If it isn't your turn when the war starts then you discard you hand at the end of combat and draw back up to five cards. so the event in question just gives players an advantage in the war, but you don't get to keep them unless you drew the war and survived.

If it's not your turn, you only replenish your hand back to 5 (or do nothing if you already have 5+ cards).

sorry re-read the rules it only states you clear you bridge, so your right only need to draw if you have less then 5 cards in you hand.

No worries. I only noticed this myself about a month ago, and I've been playing the game since it came out last year. Seems like every time I read the rulebook I notice something new.
