    Your hand and XP

I am playing a dummy game solo to get a feel for the rules before my siblings and I play tomorrow after Thanksgiving dinner (Canadian).

When playing a card from your hand, be it Character, Maneuver, or Setup, you never have to pay the XP cost, correct?

A quick rundown of my first turn...

Draw 5 cards from my deck. Perform 1 Starbase Search. Play Tricorder and perform another Starbase Search (Does Tricorder stay in my bridge at this time, or hit my discard pile?). Play Ensign. Play Starfleet Academy on Ensign, upgrade to Lieutenant (Does Starfleet Academy stay in my bridge at this time, or hit my discard pile?). Lieutenant hits the bridge, Ensign hits the discard pile.

So far all this was done without spending any XP, correct? And currently I have 2XP, enough to purchase another ensign for my discard pile from the Starbase.

The game looks very very good so far, but I'm a bit cloudy on some of the rules. Perhaps you could make a Youtube video of three people playing, going over their first few turns? I generally find the best way to learn a new game is by observation.

From what I understand, that's correct. Once a card enters your deck, you never pay the XP cost again.

EDIT: Having gone back to look at the rulebook, I stand by my call, and it would seem that Starfleet Academy would in fact stay in play until the end of your turn - the rules state that characters, maneuvers, and setups remain in play.

You do not need XP to play cards that are in your deck.

Also in your scenerio before you use Starfleet Academy you can place your Ensign on your bridge then use Starfleet. You will have the 1 XP from your upgraded Ensign to spend along with the 2 XP from your Lieutenant giving you a total of 3 to spend for your turn.

So you could infact decide to play your Ensign and Lieutenant then use Starfleet on your Lieutenant to upgrade to a 5 cost Character (You can upgrade the Basic Characters to Characters in the starbase.) then you can buy back the Lieutenant you just upgraded.

When you play the Ensign, you do get the 1XP (plus stats to your flagship), but once you play Starfleet Academy, Ensign is TRASHED and the Lieutenant goes into your DISCARD. So you keep the XP, but lose the stats.

Lieutenant goes into DISCARD and you do not get to use the 2XP from that card.

Q: Can Starfleet Academy be used multiple time on your turn?
Q: Are the XP's on your Bridge a one time only use on your turn?
Just want to get these point's sorted out before the game hit's the table at the weekend.

    1) I don't see why not, if you end up with multiple copies in your hand. Someone else may know better than me, though.

    2) Yes. Any XP you gain from basic crew and card effects are spent once, then gone - in addition, any unspent points disappear at the end of your turn when your bridge cards are discarded.

Also, congrats on your first post being the 100th post on this board!

How could you have multiple copies of Starfleet Academy? I thought it was a starter card without a duplicate in the starbase deck?

It is rare, but there are a few effects that allow you to give your opponent cards from your deck or to steal cards from your opponent.
