Recently, I put a post up on Facebook seeing if anybody had any questions about the game that they needed answers. You wanted ‘em, here they are!
Dan Milian: How is the co-op mode coming along?
Victor Estrada: Im curious about the Co op mode mentioned earlier, as well as the custom scenarios for people who have all 5 sets.
Zachary Hittesdorf : The Star Trek Game has a mode called ‘Borg Invasion.’ It is a co-op mode where instead of facing each other, players team up against a common foe. Are there any plans to implement a feature liek this into REDBG?
This question is actually in reference to another Facebook question that I posted, seeing if anyone would like to see a Co-op mode where everyone is attempting to beat the game itself. It’s going steadily, but I’ve had to go back to the drawing board a few times. I hope everyone enjoys what comes out as the end product
Yusei Valentine: Is the next set gonna be based on Revelations, ORC, or 6?
Eddy Bugnot: So… What’s next? A set based on operation racoon city? Or RE 6? The game still doing ok financially?
Roberto Jimenez: Is there going to be an expansion based on Revelations?
Chris Cooper: Echoing the second comment, what will the next set be pulling from? (hopefully 56… Jake and Sherry cards FTW.)
My current plan is to hopefully get it based on RE6, but everything is up in the air at the moment, so I have to design based on whatever is a common occurrence across all 3 choices. It makes it a bit more difficult, but difficulty breeds creativity, and interesting creativity at that! And yes, as far as I can see, the game is doing great financially, so it will keep on truckin’!
Emmy Katt: Will there ever be another set kind of like Outbreak?
Probably not, sadly, as that is still one of my more favorite game modes. We find it better to bring something new to the table rather than the same thing again. If we continuously released the same type of game, we wouldn’t be able to reach new audiences who didn’t like Outbreak to begin with.
Richard Hurtado: Can we get a sawed off shotgun card? Are we ever getting a deluxe box card holder?
Rene Alejandro Buelna: What happened to the chest that you wanted to make?
Sawed off Shotguns, for the man who doesn’t need to shoot from far away! You may be getting one soon, you may not! Like I said, nothing is currently set in stone. Sadly the deluxe box holder idea bit the dust when I had asked the public about it on FB a few months back. There was some genuine interest in it, but not enough to garner such a huge risk. Sorry guys, maybe next time!
Ron Davis: The new Barry with the triple barrel shotgun. Which counts as a actual explore and does the gun stay the same until you explore again?
You should join our forum and ask this in the FAQ section for Mercenaries! You can find it here: http://www.bandai.com/residentevil/forum/showthread.php?2201-RE-Mercenaries-FAQ
Nik Trumble: Is there a plan for RE6? Echoing Emmy Katt: will we ever see a re-implementation of Outbreak mode? Plans for new modes that you can talk about?
Grrrr, dang you Nik! I can’t divide your question into 3 pieces because that would be unfair to the other kids. You can find the answers to 1 and 2 above. As for new modes, the Co-op question I posed had a reason behind it, and although it may not be a Co-op mode that makes it through to the end, it will be very interesting to see the result.
Andrew Fein: What is your personal opinion of Resident Evil Outbreak Series?
The video game? I like it, but probably more for the nostalgia and stupid stories that came about from it. I hated how my friends essentially forced me into playing Jim, but that coin flipping was so amazing….
Anavel Gato: Any chance of one set that gives cards to all game modes outbreak, partner, nightmare (small decks kill you often). Also hopeing next set will have more traps.
Anne-Marie Mckibbin: Will you write new skill cards in the future sets? Are you going to add some counters for XP like the ones from Outbreak? Speaking of Outbreak, any chances we get more infected characters\infection cards? By the way, thank you for taking some time to do this, it is appreciated to know you care for the game community.
If we were to release new cards for those game modes, they would probably be promotional cards of some kind, perhaps in a pack of 10 unique cards. Also, RE isn’t RE without traps, and sandwiches would never be of the Jill variety without them either!
I know that without this community, this game wouldn’t be where it is today. Plus, I enjoy running into some of you playing RE:DBG and plopping down for a game or two myself with you!
Justin Matthews: I hope to see a movie series based expansion. Any thoughts on that?
Roy Grason Stephens: Seconding the questions re: movie characters/events as well as Operation Raccoon City… that could lend itself to an awesome team mode. Wolfpack vs. Govt Troops or STARS.
It would be nice, however the chances are very slim, as we mainly work with the video games. Sorry to burst your bubble
ORC, however, has a huge shot of being the subject of scrutiny for a set.
Ariscyel von Freinheit: Will Ashley Graham ever have a card?
Congrats on having the most interesting name in the entire AMA. Sadly, the only consolation prize I have is my response I have considered having an Ashley Graham card, however she would have to have her own alternate win condition, aside from the Mansion itself, as she never wields a weapon in RE4, unless you count oil lamps! I’m sure there’s a way to make it work, but I’m saving her for a rainy day because of all the interesting angles I could go.
Joseph Dunn: Will we ever get a william birkin card?
Not very soon, but I have all of his forms set aside for a particular set
Joey DiCarlo: Will gen con Indy have an appropriate number of redbg events this year? Last year had hardly any.
I think the RE DBG events were cut back because we weren’t able to put together all of the necessary sets in time. It’s a very arduous task sleeving 20-30 sets of RE and color coding them appropriately. I don’t know the current plans for Gencon Indy since I normally don’t go, however I would assume something would be happening this year.
Ian Trudgett: Any chance of making a pdf of all previously published scenarios with the resources listed by name and card number and the custom starting inventories for all current characters (again, by name and card number) in one place?
This is a great idea that I have been meaning to get to. I also have a way to make it even better than what you’re suggesting, but yes, I do want to work on this as soon as I get a chance!
Mike Kaminski: Have you any plans on adding a new card types into the game. And what are your thoughts on making locations/scenario/event cards or new modes?
I do currently have a few plans involving new card types, but again it all depends on the groups feeling towards it. I am a large cog in the contraption that makes this game a success, but I still depend on the other cogs to work in unison with me. A lot of my time is pitching initial ideas, then some of those ideas being kicked back to the drawing board. A lot of them end up in the waste bucket, and some others get re-tweaked and appear later on.
Dan Milian: Any word on correct printings of Lone wolf and RCPD?
Robert Griffiths: Did the nightmare box ever get its misprints rectified?
I know I have answered this a few times before. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to get correct printings of these cards. This issue falls squarely on me, and is something I should’ve (easily) caught. If you are looking for somebody to pin the misprinting on, its definitely on me, and I apologize profusely for the error. I have taken steps to make sure it never happens again by altering my approval methods because of this issue, as I never intentionally want a defective product in anyones hands.
Tyler Rash: How do you go about balancing card effects?
Sorry I didn’t type your whole post, it was pretty long! Usually when a card is underpowered, it means either the public isn’t seeing an angle that we saw in our testing, or it means it was nerfed down into the ground and we didnt have sufficient time to re-balance the card. Sometimes we simply run out of time and some ideas work out and others fall to the grind. I’ve debated lately about finding the average number of cards that end up falling into this meat grinder, then creating that many more cards, with the assumption that those would die to the grinder, then even if I didn’t have them all die, I’d have extra effects to work with for next set or even for a promotional card or two.
Zac Fox: These are all great questions, but the most important question of all is: When are we getting a Tofu character?!
As soon as I find artwork worthy of such a god!
Robert Aronovici: Can we get a boss mode? One player plays as the mansion and screws the players…
This is the opposite spectrum from the Co-op mode: the raid format. I would love to do this as well, however I think a co-op mode is more important at this time, since we already have various PvP type formats, but no PvE format.
Andrew Arrowsmith: How do you plan on implementing the mutations of the re6 enemy’s, seperate cards or a new mechanic?
It all depends on art count. If I need more infected, seperate cards. If I have a ton of infected art, probably a keyword/new mechanic.
Russel Rothman: Is there any chance of making it a sort of deck-building, board game? You move around a mansion running in to random creatures while trying to find puzzle pieces, find a boss, and escape.
Its funny you bring this up. I am a HUGGGEE fan of Arkham Horror and Mansions of Madness (especially MoM, since I’m always the gamekeeper. Muhaha!). What you’re describing is exactly like those two games. A few of my friends are on this same bandwagon of making REDBG into a board game type, complete with story and more. The only issue I have with it is that players who have beaten the games would know where all the traps and surprised are, so the only true surprise would be the infected, which is what we have with the DBG version already. It has been a huge back and forth tug of war between my friends and I about this subject, and I don’t see it dwindling anytime soon.
Armando Morales: Are you guys going to post more custom scenarios on the web site like you use to and are there any plans to add more infection mode cards (monsters, actions, infections, etc).
I wasn’t able to continually post those scenarios as much as I wanted to, so I had to stop. However, I do encourage all players to post up their scenarios in our custom scenarios section of the forum, which you can find here: http://www.bandai.com/residentevil/forum/forumdisplay.php?4-Custom-Scenarios . The answer to your infection mode card question is in the miasma above.
Ivan Gomez: Question: Will Beethoven’s music make a combeack in future RE games? I mean, Moonlight Sanata made the cut, why not another piece?
I’m not sure what they are doing with the video games themselves, but I do agree. I miss hearing Chris fail miserably on piano….
Carlos Martinez: Why is Bruce McGivern not in the game yet? Or Arc Thompson?
Eddy Bugnot: I second Ark Thompson, we need more underdog characters, how about making a set without Jill, Claire, Leon & Chris for a change btw? Also, Tofu is needed.
Very minor characters in relation to the central plot of the actual numbered games. However, I do want to get to them very soon. Also, we have to keep some of the main characters in each set, as the majority of people who play RE don’t recognize Bruce or Ark as well as they notice Chris, Jill, or Claire.
Benjamin Robert Hernandez: Got any good ideas for taking care of Flamethrower/Billy combos? Maybe a counter card action?
Honestly we never had too much issue with this in our testing. Billy + Flamethrower was too slow to make a big enough impact on the game to win. The only time the combo did win was when the player hit the absolute nuts when he explored every time, dealing perfect damage and getting the most Decorations possible. Try finding more efficient upgrade/trash methods, and that player won’t be winning as much anymore
Adam Daily: Any ideas for a dedicated solo play mode?
No official plans, though there is a really cool solo robot that somebody created. It gives me a run for my money as well! You can find it here: http://www.bandai.com/residentevil/forum/showthread.php?2172-Solo-Play-Robot
Thanks for the questions everyone! I hope the answers above shed a little more light in an otherwise darkened hallway of the mansion. Until next time, may the next corner always contain a zombie!
