Resident Evil @ Gencon Indy!

How are my favorite Infected hunters doing this week?

I apologize for the long break between posts, but we have been busy getting together everything for our amazing weekend at Gencon.

In case you havn’t heard, we are having our first ever competitive tournament at Gencon on Sunday, August 7th, starting at 9 am. You must win a Win-a-Mat tournament in order to enter, so be sure to try out a few and get your entrance quickly!

Also, we have 3 promos being given out during Gencon Indy. They were previewed before, but in case you missed out, you can find them here: http://www.bandaicg.com/residentevil/forum/showthread.php?1512-Gencon-Indy-Exclusive-Promos

They will be given out as such:

Jim Chapman: Demoing the game

George Harrison: Playing in a Win-a-Mat

Albert Wesker: Playing in our Competitive Tournament

Not going to Gencon? Don’t fret, we usually release these cards to the public after some time. If you want them first, be sure to drop by our booth!

As for the competitive tournament, I am really excited to see how this tournament will fare. Here are the official rules.

—————————————————————————————————-

Tournament Structure and Points

3 Round Tournament with a cut to Top 8

Round Time: 50 Minutes

Entrance Requirements: Players gain entrance to the tournament when they place 1st in a Win-a-mat game.

Players are expected to play at a fast pace and will be warned if playing too slow.

Players will earn points at game end in the following order according to how many Decorations they have:

1st: 5 points

2nd: 3 points

3rd: 2 points

4th: 1 point

Players will have a Tiebreaker #1 and a Tiebreaker #2 to determine placement if points are tied in standings. The tiebreakers are:

Tiebreaker #1: Total Decorations earned throughout the Tournament

Tiebreaker #2: Total number of Infected Defeated throughout the Tournament

Tiebreaker #3:  (The sum of the points you got in each round squared, then added together).

Tiebreakers

At the end of Round time, play continues until each player has had the same number of turns. After this, the game moves to tiebreakers to determine 1st-4th place. The tiebreakers are:

  1. Decorations
  2. Most Infected attached to Character
  3. Infected with highest decoration value attached to your Character (repeat with the next infected until a difference is found).
  4. Player with lowest printed Health.
  5. Player closest to the player that went first, going clockwise.

Top Cut

The top cut for this event will be Top 8. The players will be placed as follows:

Table #1: 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th

Table #2: 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th

Only the top 2 players from each table will move on to the Top 4, where a winner will be determined.

Game Format

The Format for each Round will be Story Mode, with the Resource Area and Mansion changing between Rounds.

Mansions by Round

Round 1 – Resident Evil: Deckbuilding Game Mansion, minus Gatling Gun Case (MA-013)

Round 2 – Resident Evil: Alliance Mansion, minus Reaper (MA-036), Guardian of Insanity (MA-037), & Los Illuminados Monk (MA-035)

Round 3 – Mixture of Resident Evil: Deckbuilding Game  & Resident Evil: Alliance Mansions.

                Top 8 & 4 – Same as Round 3.

Characters

All Characters from Resident Evil: Deckbuilding Game & Resident Evil: Alliance, along with the Lost in Nightmares Promos are choosable, except:

o Josh Stone (Ch-012)

o Jill Valentine (Brainwashed) (Ch-016)

Players will be dealt 2 Character cards face down at the beginning of the game. They will choose 1 of those to use for the game. Once all Characters have been chosen, each Player will Reveal which Character they are using.

Specific Rules

Exploring

o When a Player chooses to Explore, they must play all Weapons, clearly show Bullets being used, and total up their Damage before the top card of the Mansion is Revealed.

o A Player whose Character is NOT Exploring must Reveal the top card of the Mansion. Revealing the top card of the Mansion while your Character is Exploring is a warning.

Buying

o Once a Player has moved a card to their Discard Pile from the Resource Area and they are no longer physically touching the card, then the Buy is final.

Ending your turn

o Once a Player has announced they are done with their turn, then their turn is over. Any player taking their turn early will be considered cheating.

Rulings to Remember

Jill Valentine (CH-009) & Grenade (WE-001)

o Jills effect will NOT add extra Damage to the Grenade’s effect.

o Using cards such as Deadly Aim (AC-002) will NOT increase the Damage from the Grenade’s effect.

Fierce Battle (Ac-017)

o A Player cannot use Fierce Battle’s effect on a Player with a face down or dead Main Character.

In case you didn’t read all of that, just show up, and you’ll have a lot of fun, as well as meeting fellow players. Hope to see you all there!

Resident Evil: DBG @ Gencon Indy

I know its been awhile since you’ve heard from us, but we have been hush hush for a large reason.

At Gencon Indy later this year (August 4th thru the 7th to be exact), Bandai will be hosting not only the first ever competitive Resident Evil tournament, but also the first ever competitive tournament for any Deck Building Game Ever.

What does that mean to you? This means more promos, more of a reason to come and join in on the zombie fun, and more of a reason to brush up on your skills. More information will be provided when it is confirmed, but here is what is confirmed so far:

o The “Win-a-mat” tournaments will be used as qualifiers for the main event. The player who wins the Win-a-mat tournament gets an entry into the competitive tournament.

o The main event will be 3 rounds of swiss with a cut to top 8. Yes, you heard it, 3 rounds of swiss, with 4 players in each game.

o We are aiming to have each round done in under an hour.

We will have more information in the coming weeks, including how tiebreakers will work, end of time procedures, points, and more!
