Hi! New to the game had a few questions...

Ok so on my b-day (12-22) I took the day and spent time with my friends. We decided to try this new game and bought it at our local card shop. It was Resident Evil: Alliance. We read through the Rule book and started a game up had a blast with the game. Anyways onto the questions:

    1. Do you need the base game to play? (I'm guessing not as we played through Alliance and had an alright time)

    2. I'm looking to buy more expansions for our collection, can we mix in the cards from each set and use them to play a giant game of resident evil? If so, which rule book would we use?

    3. The way we understood it, hunk was stupidly overpowered/broken (whatever term you want to use). Is he really that broken?

That's all I can think of at the moment, I'm sure when we play again we will think of new questions.
Thanks for being patient and answering our questions and for any help you guys can offer!

1: No, although getting it as well as the other three sets is reccomended because...

2: Yes, you can mix and match. I'd hang onto all the rulebooks (or get the android app) for supplemental data like Custom Loadouts. If you MUST choose one, go with the latest- Mercenaries.

3: Once hes alone, he can be. Its all about how the player plays the characters, though. Josh can stick FOUR weapons on his partner, for example. (though he himself is pretty much bad)

So it's like D&D with resi and cards lol.
My friends and I are thinking of doing a D&D style set up. Make a story/map go and fight mobs and work our way up to a boss.
I think it's do-able but I still like the original gameplay too. So we will see how it plays out it should be interesting

As Smaster777 said, you don't really have to get all the sets to play. I would however say that the term "base set" would be used for any set that had everything you needed to play in the box. Thus I would say that Premier (the original set), Alliance, and Mercenaries are base sets. Outbreak and Nightmares didn't come with the basic set-up (ammo, knives and handgun).

In any case, here's what each set introduces:

Premier - The game...first set so that kinda makes sense :P
Alliance - Partner Mode which you are already familiar with.
Outbreak - Outbreak Mode. Its kind of like a timer for each player. You are all infected and you either win before you turn into a zombie or, if you do turn, you get to attack the other players instead of the monsters in the mansion.
Nightmares - There's no clear cut mode that this introduces, rather it has actions that work with having large decks of inventory instead of the streamlined decks. You can know what I mean if you check out some of the strategy threads on these forums.
Mercenaries - Its kinda like Premier set 1.5. Where they took what they learned from the first few sets and then tweaked the cards to make everything flow more smoothly and quickly.

I personally say it was worth to get all the expansions because it adds alot of fun the game.
