Resident Evil DBG Tier List (Mercenaries Edition)

    It's that time again!!!

With the new set dropping soon, there will be lots of games played amongst my group of friends as well as speculation and strategies developed. This time around though rather than coming up with one concrete list after a week or two, posting it, and then never updating it I decided I wanted to do something a little more... DYNAMIC

Below you will find a spreadsheet link that I will update on the fly as myself as well as the community finds new strategies out. This allows things to be much easier to read and it is easier to find all the pertinent information such as reasoning, strategies, match-ups, etc.

RESIDENT EVIL DBG TIER LIST (MERCENARIES EDITION)

Hope you enjoy this format. I'll update it after the set drops.

Ok, so finally got the game this afternoon. Took FOREVERRRRRRRRR for me to get it. I guess this is karma for having set 2 like a whole month+ earlier than the release date.

Here are my initial impressions. I probably won't have a finalized list until the end of the month as I really have to play a lot of games to get used to things:

Nurse Rebecca - Stomped my release today with this character. 1 Decoration for a draw is a lot more powerful than I thought it would be. She's one of the strongest rush characters I've ever played. I have a hard time not seeing her reaching at least High Tier considering how easily she gets going. Her only real drawback is her low health.

Reaper Hunk - Let's just be real honest here: He's 90 health with a +30 damage effect as both of the abilities are costed extremely low and basically have no real cost to be used. He has no tricks but he probably will be THE best rush character in the game (tied with Set 1 Leon). Feels like High Tier material to me.

Jack Krauser (Mercenaries) - 100 Health. His effect is basically pointless. It honestly needs to be like +30 for me to ever really even want to use it. He's easily the worst character in the set and has no real redeeming qualities... He's a 100 health vanilla so let's be serious here. The lowest of Low Tier or Bottom Tier

Hunk (Mercenaries) - He is meant to be played super aggressively because he has a hard time getting himself killed. He definitely rushes XP faster than most for this reason since he has very little fear of dying and can start going in from turn 1 and gives him the jump on Skill cards. He's probably going to end up being Middle Tier since he has no real advantages other than activating abilities faster than anyone else since he doesn't have to worry about death.

Claire Redfield (Mercenaries) - She's just inferior to every way to base set Claire outside of her 90 health. She's going to probably end up being Low Tier

Chris Redfield (Mercenaries) - Chris is frigging awesome. He has the highest health in the game with no drawbacks meaning you should have ZERO fear of dying with this guy...which translates to someone who can get lots of XP and take big risks early that pay off. His effect means you don't have to waste early buys on trash cards unless you want to go SUPER FAST. He has no strong late game effects but the fact of the matter is, this guy will get you to "Small Deck Wins" status lightyears ahead of any other character in the game. We're talking 100+ Damage and 2+ Explores on like turn 6 or turn 7. High Tier to Top Tier

Jill Valentine (Mercenaries)- Jill is... interesting. She's amazing in 1 v 1... probably one of the best 1 v 1 characters in the entire game... there's very little that anyone can do to go up against her in a 1 v 1 setting. But this is the real world and most games are 4 players, and she really suffers there unless you spend the entire game playing the "Pick One, Grief One" strategy of just only using it on the most experienced player at the table in an attempt to make their gameplay impossible. 5 Decorations is also too steep ... I feel 4 would be a little more fair with 3 bordering on OP status but probably still acceptable. To hard to determine placement at the moment.

Albert Wesker (Mercenaries) - Tylar... can we stop making Weskers that are either OP or just steaming turd piles? Sure, he's better than Nightmare Wesker but that's not exactly a hard feat to do. His -Damage ability is impressive but A) Only triggers in suboptimal settings just like every other frigging Wesker effect and B) 7 Decorations. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Set 2 Krauser has a WAY better version of this ability (The Offensive Version) and his is even cheaper. Seriously, this thing should've been 4 Decorations considering it's barely better than Chris LIN. Low Tier

Rebecca Chambers (Mercenaries) - Cute. I haven't gotten to play her much but I love characters who grief. I can probably make her work really well and break her so I'm going to go ahead and file this one under too early to tell.

    Barry Burton (Mercenaries)
    - TOP. F***ING. TIER.

    Agreed with Top for Barry.

As for Mercs Becca, shes similar to her original counterpart in that she can troll the opponents' decks. Shes pretty decent when things like the flamethrower aren't involved. I'd say shes somewhere in mid tier, most likely.

Mercs Claire, definitely on the lower end. My buddy was using her against me (Mercs Becca) for 2 Years of Horror. He almost never used her effect...

Mercs Jill: High in a 1v1 setting, Mid in a multiplayer setting. That she has to choose one opponent makes it hard for her to just roflstomp with more than one opponent. With only one though... sheesh. Primer Claire more or less Silver Bullets her, though.

I ended up using Rebecca for our tournament's final game yesterday. She's really helpful late game, and did a number on my nearest opponent's magnum-heavy deck. I just built the deck I wanted (tons of Tear Gas, tons of Boundless Battlefield, a The Mercenaries, and very few weapons; the whole deck just loaded to the gills with ammo) and for the rest of the game, ended up buying Ammox10s every turn as gifts to him. Proceeded to wreck shop with 100+ damage Tear Gas sprees while he got hands with two magnums and 30 gold total.

I should clarify this is Mercs Rebecca I'm talking about.

Too bad Nurse Rebecca is only good with Fierce Battles, she can be shutdown just from refusing to draw a card. Good players should be able to deny her.

Provided the good player feels that denying her a mere 10 damage is worth not getting an extra card. That in and of it self is powerful...
And I hate dancing. That is one of my least favorite things to do. Other things that I hate are exercise, work, people, stupid people.

But if you look at it, the targeted player literally has no drawback in refusing. Sure you might not gain a card but you aren't placed into any worse situation since your turn ended. All you have to do is just look at your hand and you can easily judge does drawing one more card put this hand over the top. Sure early it can draw that extra ammo for a critical buy or a weapon to attack, so this could potentially help the targeted player get ahead of the nurse. Late in the game when you established a well rounded deck with decent draws, one card would probably not be worth it if the game is still competitive.
