    RE: Mercenaries FAQ

    Mode Questions

    Story Mode

    Vs. Mode

    Mercenaries Mode

    Skill System

Q: When using this in conjunction with Partner Mode, do both my characters get XP?
A: Yes they do, since they both explored.

Q: When using this in conjunction with Partner Mode, do my characters share the same XP pile, or have their own separate pile?
A: They have their own separate pile.

Q: Can I put more XP than is required on a Skill?
    A: No you cannot.

Q: Can I put XP on a Skill that is less than what is required to activate it?
    A: No you cannot.

Q: Once I have activated a skill by having the XP required on it, is that skill permanently activated?
A: It is as long as the required amount of XP is on it. If XP is removed from the Skill for any reason, then it "de-activates", and you are required to place XP on that skill during your turn until it has the required amount.

Q: If I explore once, then during the same explore, I use a 2nd explore to reveal another card from the mansion, do I get a 2nd XP?
A: No. You only receive XP whenever you go through all the steps as detailed on page 14 of the rulebook.

    Speed Mini-game

Q: What if both players have a hand where they cannot defeat either of the revealed Infected?
A: Once both players have passed on killing, either due to lack of damage or not wanting to play, they each flip over the top card on both of the face down Mansion decks, then continue play as normal. If there are no cards left in either face down Mansion, take its corresponding pile, shuffle it, then create a new face down Mansion with the shuffled cards.

Q: Where do the cards I played go once I defeat an Infected?
    A: Your Discard Pile.

    Characters

    CH-044 Jack Krauser

Q: If this character is one of the characters tied for the lowest, do I still get its effect?
A: No you don't, because then this character wouldn't have the lowest decorations.

Q: If I'm playing a solo game with this character, do I get his effect?
A: Yes you do, because he always has the lowest decorations.

    CH-045 Hunk

    CH-046 Claire Redfield

    CH-047 Chris Redfield

    CH-048 Jill Valentine

Q: This card states "any Weapons their Character uses", does this increase the Ammo Requirement for all Weapons their Character uses?
    A: Yes it does.

    CH-049 Albert Wesker

    CH-050 Rebecca Chambers

Q: Can this card only be used once per turn because it has the word "can"?
A: That is correct. This mean you can only move 1 card, no matter how many buys you have.

    CH-051 Barry Burton

Q: Does this Character's effect loop into itself?
A: Yes it does. You must continue looking at the top until you find an Infected that does not have less Health.

Q: Do "when X is revealed" effects happen when I look at the top of the Mansion?
A: No, since only you are looking and the card isn't specifically revealed.

Q: Does Barry take damage from the card you looked at if he cannot defeat it?
A: No he does not, since you are not Exploring, you are simply looking.

Q: I reveal MA-083 Los Ganados (Male) while Exploring with this character and have two more copies attached to me, making the revealed copies health 30. I defeat him, does Barry look at the top card of the Mansion as if the defeated card's health was 30, or is it the printed value?
A: You look based on the health value of the card you defeated. In this instance, the health value of MA-083 was 30, so you would look as if you defeated an Infected with a health of 30.

Q: I defeat 2 Infected during my turn, one with 25 health, the other with 30. How does Barry's effect work?
A: You would activate Barry's effect for each Infected. So you would do Barry's effect until you can longer look for the 25 health Infected, then you would do the same for the 30 health Infected.

Q: If I use WE-045 Custom Full-Bore Machine Gun and defeat an extra Infected with Barry's effect, do I gain 1 XP because of the weapons effect?
A: No, you don't. WE-045 only grants you +1 XP for every instance of Exploring. So if you explore in two separate instances, then you would get +2 XP.

    Weapons

    WE-043 Ibex Standard

Q: Does this card's effect mean to pay 20 ammo on top of the 10 your already paying, or 20 total?
A: 20 on top of the 10 your already paying, so 30 total for the added damage.

    WE-044 Custom Pump-Action Shotgun

    WE-045 Custom Full-Bore Machine Gun

Q: How does this effect work?
A: This gun will give you +1 XP for every instance of Exploration you perform during the turn. An "instance" of exploring means going through all of the steps detailed on page 32 of the rulebook (announce, play weapons, pay ammo req., add up damage, skill/character/weapon effects, gain 1 XP).

    WE-046 Custom Lightning Hawk

Q: When does this card's effect activate?
A: Per page 32 of the rulebook, this weapon activates during step 5 under "Exploring the Mansion". This means the activate activates before you gain XP or the top card of the Mansion is revealed, but after you have paid ammo requirements and added up your damage.

Q: If I pair this weapon with SK-021 Weapon Master Lv. 3, do I get to double the damage I get for each XP I pay?
A: No, it simply allows you to apply the effect of WE-046 twice (basically no effect).

    WE-047 Custom Bolt-Action Rifle

Q: If I explore with 2 XP on my character, then receive my 3rd for exploring, do I get this weapon's effect?
A: Per page 32 of the Rulebook, the final step performed before revealing the top of the Mansion is to gain 1 XP. This means that when you would apply this Weapon's effect, you don't have the necessary amount of XP, so you wouldn't get the effect.

    WE-048 Hunting Bow

    WE-049 Custom Standard Sidearm

Q: When does this card's effect activate?
A: Per page 32 of the rulebook, this weapon activates during step 5 under "Exploring the Mansion". This means the activate activates before you gain XP or the top card of the Mansion is revealed, but after you have paid ammo requirements and added up your damage.

    Actions

    AC-042 Fight or Flight

Q: When I use this effect, is the Infected I moved considered Defeated or not Defeated?
A: Neither. Since the exploration never progressed to determining defeated/not defeated while that Infected was revealed, neither can be determined.

    AC-043 The Mercenaries

    AC-044 Boundless Battlefield

    AC-045 Coup De Grâce

Q: Lets say I play this Action with 5 XP on my character, the explore with WE-046 "Custom Lightning Hawk", and remove 1 XP with WE-046's effect. Do I still get the bonus from this card?
A: AC-045 checks your XP the second it is played, and doesn't check after. In your example, you would still get the bonus damage from AC-045.

    AC-046 Melee

    AC-047 Anticipation

    AC-048 Backstab

    AC-049 Battle Hardened

    AC-050 Resuscitate

    Mansion

    MA-073 Town Majini

    MA-074 Town Majini (Shovel)

    MA-075 Giant Majini

    MA-076 Base Majini (Gun)

Q: If this infected is revealed while I am exploring and removes 1 XP from a skill, causing it to be deactivated, can I move XP onto that skill while I am exploring?
A: No you cannot. The only time you can move XP onto a skill is while your character is not exploring and during your turn.

    MA-077 Chicken

Q: Does this Infected's effect only apply during Mercenaries Mode?
A: Correct, since the "Combo Pile" only exists during Mercenaries Mode. For all intents and purposes, the card has no effect text outside of Mercenaries Mode.

    MA-078 Red Executioner

    MA-079 Big Man Majini

    MA-080 Chainsaw Majini

Q: If multiple players are tied for lowest decorations, do they all get this effect?
A: yes they do, since the card says "player(s)".

    MA-081 Los Illuminados (Shield)

Q: Does this card refer to the printed Ammo Requirement or after character effects are applied?
A: The timing is "when this infected is revealed", meaning that the this card's effect occurs after character/weapon effects, so this card refer's to the value after character effect's are applied.

    MA-082 J.J.

    MA-083 Los Ganados (Male)

Q: Does this Infected's effect count every card with "Los Ganados" in its name, or only cards with the exact name "Los Ganados (Male)"?
A: Only cards with the exact name "Los Ganados (Male)" are counted.

Q: I reveal MA-083 Los Ganados (Male) while Exploring with CH-051 Barry Burton and have two more copies attached to me, making the revealed copies health 30. I defeat him, does Barry look at the top card of the Mansion as if the defeated card's health was 30, or is it the printed value?
A: You look based on the health value of the card you defeated. In this instance, the health value of MA-083 was 30, so you would look as if you defeated an Infected with a health of 30.

    MA-084 Los Ganados (Female)

    MA-085 Adjule

Q: What exactly does this card's effect mean?
A: It means that, when it is revealed from the Mansion, if the Exploring Character is using 3 or more Weapons, then Adjule deals 10 less Damage, meaning it would deal 10 Damage if you lose to it instead of its usual 20.

    MA-086 Los Illuminados (Scythe)

    MA-087 Venomous Snake

    MA-088 Tribal Majini (Bow)

    MA-089 Tribal Majini (Oil Pot)

Q: How is this card's effect applied?
A: Starting with the exploring character's player, each player selects and removes from game the top card from any resource pile.

    MA-090 Tribal Majini (Shield)

    MA-091 Crocodile

Q: How is this card's effect applied?
A: Starting with the exploring character's player, each player selects and removes from game the top card from any resource pile.

    MA-092 Town Majini (Motorcycle)

    MA-093 Los Ganados (Handscythe)

    MA-094 Los Ganados (Pitchfork)

    MA-095 Los Ganados

    MA-096 Los Illuminados (Bow)

    MA-097 Militia (Bow)

    MA-098 Base Majini (Shield)

Q: If I heal my character while at full health, do I get this effect?
A: No you do not, since you didn't heal any health.

    SK-007 Luck LV. 1

    SK-008 Luck LV. 2

Q: Can this skill negate the damage from anything?
A: yes it can, the source can be anything that is dealing damage to you.

    SK-009 Luck LV. 3

Q: If my Teammate in Mercenaries Mode dies, can I copy my own skills?
A: No you cannot. Once your Teammate dies, this skill becomes effectively blank.

Q: Let's say I am playing 3v1, and I'm on the 3 player Team. Do both of my Teammates get my activated skill's effects?
A: Yes they would, as that was the intention of the card.

Q: Is this skill useless if I am playing alone in Mercenaries Mode?
    A: Effectively, yes, it is.

    SK-011 Toughness LV. 2

Q: If I have 1 Symbol of Evil AC-041 attached to my character at the beginning of my turn, and I have this skill activated, do I take 10 damage and draw 1, or do I just draw 1? What if I had 2 AC-041 attached?
A: SK-011 lowers every instance of damage on your character by 10. In your example, you would simply draw 1, and if you had 2 equipped, you would simply draw 2, since there would be 2 separate instances of AC-041 attempting to deal damage to you.

Q: So this skill reduces any instance of damage by 10?
A: Yes, no matter what the source is.

    SK-012 Toughness LV. 3

Q: If I play with this skill in Infection Mode, have it activated, and I reveal Yawn (MA-042) or Tyrant T-002 (MA-041), is the infection level increase that I redirect with this skill based on my infection level or my opponent's?
A: It will be based on your infection level. You still control the exploring character, however you can simply redirect the effect to someone else.

    SK-013 Reversal LV. 1

    SK-014 Reversal LV. 2

Q: Can I activate this to kill my character and trash 2 cards.
A: No. The moment your character has 0 health, the game stops and proceeds to perform the steps as pertaining to a character's death.

    SK-016 Smart Reload LV. 1

    SK-017 Smart Reload LV. 2

    SK-018 Smart Reload LV. 3

    SK-020 Weapon Master LV. 2

    SK-021 Weapon Master LV. 3

A: No it doesn't, since your only stating what the value of X is twice.

Q: Does copying the effect text of Russian Assault Rifle (WE-022) or Signature Special (WE-023) do anything?
A: Yes, it limits your ammunition to the indicated value, though applying it twice does nothing.

    SK-022 Giant Killing LV. 1

Q: While I am exploring, lets say that, for whatever reason, the health on an Infected I am battling is increased to 40 or higher. Does this effect activate?
A: Yes, since this card is constantly checking the revealed Infected's health, so long as your character is exploring.

Q: Does this card lower the effect damage of an infected at 40 or more health?
A: No, only the printed damage.

    SK-023 Giant Killing LV. 2

Q: While I am exploring, lets say that, for whatever reason, the health on an Infected I am battling is increased to 40 or higher. Does this effect activate?

    AM-005 Ammo x10

    AM-006 Ammo x20

Q: What is the exact timing on this card's effect?
A: The moment you defeat an Infected, but before you finish Exploring.

I just took a look at the Merc rule book and the speed mini game sounds cool but i have a few questions.

Is it possible for a player to have a hand with at least one weapon and one Ammo card but cant play any weapon(s) because they are not powerful enough to kill anything? Im not sure if im reading it wrong but it seems as if you play your weapon(s) first and then you play from hand your ammo cards to fill the ammo cost for your weapon(s). you need to play cards to draw cards but since you cant play any at all, what happens? For example Player A has one Custom standard sidearm and 4 ammo x10 and both revealed infected have at least 30 HP. would player A have to wait till player B defeats something or what if player B has a similar hand?

Also it doesnt say in the rule book but i assume that once you defeat the infected your play area goes to the discard pile right?

    I have a few questions.

    1. When playing with the partner and skill mods, does each of your characters gain 1xp when exploring or does the player gain 1xp into a shared pool that will be used for both characters?

    2. So when you are down to your last 5 cards, its probably wise to overpay for the last weapon, but what if you forget to play all the ammo cards and keep 1 in your hand? Does the game still end even though you have not played all of your cards? Do you shuffle your inventory and keep playing?

    3. What happens if all 20 infected are defeated? I'm guessing that will end the game as well, but just wanted to make sure as its not actually written in the rules.

    4. Both players take turns simultaneously. What happens when both players want to defeat the same infected? Is it a matter of who physically plays the required cards first and grabs the infected from the center? I shudder to think what might happen to the infected card if both players grab for it a little too zealously...

    5. Do both players play simultaneously each round or are there no rounds in Speed mode? If there are no rounds, then it is possible for one player to have taken 5 'turns' while the other has only take 2 correct? Also, if there is no pause then its really up to the honor system that your opponent hasn't underpaid (by mistake or otherwise) the ammo cost for the weapon they are using?
