    Alliance Multi-explore questions

Sorry if this was posted elsewhere. I used the search function but didn't see anything. I'll give you this, I half-heartedly looked.

We were playing with lots of shotguns and my friend revealed two of the cards where you pick someone to explore next turn. This and my shotguns I had on my partner and main character led to me having 6 explores with 2 of them being mandatory. I flip over and explore four cards at once. Three are monsters while the last is the laser.

I killed the three monsters and was not sure what happened next. We played it where I flipped over another card to fulfill the lasers condition.

Is that how it would go?

Does it matter what order the cards comes up when you do more than one explore at a time?

What if it had been two monsters, a laser, and then another monster?

What if it had been two monsters, a laser, and then a barrel or trap door?

First, killing multiple Cephalo in the same turn doesn't compel you to explore multiple times.

Second, it's actually a little easier then you think: you don't have to decide how many of your explores your going to use before you see the cards. Instead, you do it one at a time.

Here's an overview of how exploring works in detail. Sorry if it's covering things you already know, just want to be clear.
    1) "Decide" to explore, per the orders of the Cephalo your friend killed.
.a) Play any weapons from your hand.
.b) Decide which weapons you want to use from the played ones and weapons attached to your partner.
.c) Pay the ammunition costs of the weapons you'll be using.
    .d) Total your damage.
.e) Apply any effects from your weapons (so gain lots of explores, for example).

    2) Reveal the top card of the mansion.
.a) If the revealed card has an effect, do what it says.

    3) If you have extra explores, decide if you want to use one.
.b) If so, go back to step 2.

    4) If you're out of explores or just don't want to explore again, time to fight the infected.
.a) Total up the health of the infected that were revealed.
.b) If your damage is greater than that, great! Defeat them and attach them to your main character.
.c) If it's lower, take damage equal to their combined damage on your exploring character and put the Infected on the bottom for your deck.

So in the example you gave (six explores), you would see the cards one at a time so when the laser came up, you'd resolve it at step 2 and then decide what to do next.

Thank you for your response necklessone, but it may have raised even more questions for me.

Why would defeating two Cephalos not allow my friend to make me explore twice?

I knew you didn't have to decide how many explores you were going to use for the mansion before flipping, but I did think you had to decide whether you were going to do multiple explores at one time or just flip them one by one. This made sense to me because of the weapon rule about how a weapon can only be used once per turn. Both ways make sense to me so I guess I'm asking if you can point me to the specific wording in the rulebook?

Actually after re-reading the manual, your way makes more sense though I wish it was stated more explicitly in the rulebook.

It's just how the Cephalo is worded: "That Player must Explore with their Character(s) at least once on their next turn". If that effect targets you, then you just have two effects that make you explore "at least once". Nothing about exploring more than once.

I knew you didn't have to decide how many explores you were going to use for the mansion before flipping, but I did think you had to decide whether you were going to do multiple explores at one time or just flip them one by one. The rules about using a weapon no more than once a turn are to cover this scenario: say you've already explored once, killed some things, but still have some number of explores left. If you have more weapons you haven't used this turn, you can choose to start a whole new explore with those weapons. It's not the most common way to explore, but their there are some times when it is appropriate. The most common ones I've seen are character related (eg, exploring once with Krauser using only a cheap/free way to get another explore so you maximize his bonus damage, then playing weapons for the second explore; having Alliance Chris only use one weapon to get the ammo reductions on two different explores).

The Nightmare cards are the big one to encourage splitting your explores.
