I'm glad you and your friends gave the mode a try AlohaJo! Also, welcome to the forum!

I'm willing to try Tylar's single discard pile idea and see if my friends like that, and we can try it with or without the 3 face up Infected some more and see what sticks.

Also, you mention doing upkeep with a 4 sided die. I actually had this as one of my early rules before I did a number of play tests and realized it was unfair. Whoever rotated the cards had the biggest advantage, as they'd have first pick of the 2 new cards that flipped, which is why I was using the "First player indicator" to make that person different every round.

Thanks for the suggestions Tylar and AlohaJo!

I played another round of Escalation over the weekend using only the Mercenaries cards, and the "Normal" mansion deck from Mercenaries. It worked quite well, and only a couple of cards gave us pause. For example the Crocodile card has text that says to remove cards from the resource area. We just ignored the text in our game, but it could still apply if you feel necessary.

The "Chicken" had the most debate, but I actually feel I came up with a fun idea for the Chicken. Since the Chicken only has 5 health, and my rules for Escalation state that you round down when determining the "Hunted" status, the Chicken essentially attacks you as soon as he is revealed. He does 5 damage and goes to the bottom of the Mansion draw pile. I think this is kind of cool because it prevents somebody from getting an easy 3 decorations with only 5 damage. The only way the chicken can be killed in Escalation mode is if an Infected does damage to a player, then leaves the mansion area to be replaced by the chicken (meaning the chicken isn't hunting anybody).
