After playing this game twice, once on Hard with 4 players and once on Professional, I have to say it turned out better than I hoped.
We decided to go with the custom start deck in the Normal game. (I'm starting to think the standard one was not a great setup.) We did the round robin buying cards with a total 150 gold. Unforunately most of the party bought a 2 or 3 really good cards but was stuck with 7 ammo/knifes that made the opening floors way more difficult than they should have been.
For the mansion cards we used both Premier and Alliance decks however instead of mixing them we gave players the choice which one that want to pull from. We put all of the good weapons in the Alliance deck since, IMO, the Alliance deck contains stronger baddies.
Only one party membered died (me of course because we got hit with two of the infected that deal 10 damage each when they were revealed on the 10th floor.)
Our party consisted of Jill (BW) played by me. Leon (P), Carlos (A), and Ada Wong(P).
We had possible issues with the Give motion and the timing of when cards can be given to players. So I will have to work on that.
The 2nd game we decided to tackle the Professional Mode. We decided to change up the Custom starting rules.
* We uped the Gold to 170
* Players were not allow to buy anything over 50 gold
* We discussed which player should take to be the most effective a team.
This change to the starting deck was a great improvement. We weren't able to start off with the most amazing cards but right from the get go we all noticed a huge difference in amount of damage the group did every turn.
We changed the timing of the Give to the very beginning of the turn before anyone did their setup. Again we used the two different decks to pull from.
This game the entire party survived the whole thing even with all the extra bosses and mansion cards added to the floors. We did remove the 120 health Chris and the 100 health Wesker from the Boss Stack. We made Boss cards worth 5 decorations a piece.
Our Party consisted of Claire (A) - Myself; Sheva (P), Barry (P), and Billy C (A).
Final Thoughts
When we got to the victory conditions, we, as group, didn't feel like the HP% was a good condition. Players could go through the game and not take any real damage until the last couple of rounds so if you got lucky or played smart your whole team could walk away untouched. We had an idea to vote from the best team player, couldn't vote for yourself, but that just turned into a 4 way tie. So I'm still thinking up a good victory condition.
A problem I noticed while playing, is when one player(A) would find a item or weapon in the mansion and another player(B) would find an infected that they could not defeat and the player(A) that found the item/weapon wanted to use their damage to save the other teammate, Player (B). While in the game rules this would be illegal, I think I'm going to change it so that player(A) has a choice to pick up the item or help fight the baddie assigned to Player(B).
