I am the bone of my sword.
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood.
I have created over a thousand blades.
Unknown to death. Nor to life.
Have withstood pain to create many weapons.
Yet, these hands will never hold anything.
So as I pray, "Unlimited Blade Works".
That strategy works however the smart Claire player uses their 1st/2nd/3rd purchase to hold one red herb the whole game. This slows her down, yes, but it insures that no matter what you cannot stop her dominance once she goes off. That's why I'm asking if the card can have the second effect override the first. It's just plain silly. She's easily at the top of the stack and the only team I think that really stands a shot at beating it is probably Jill (Brainedwashed)/Leon (Set 1) because it gets started so stupidly early (I was set up to explore the mansion every turn starting on turn 3 for the rest of the game).
I know this is an old topic, but even without Gathering Forces, I see other ways that this methodology can still be broken. I know Tylar addressed this issue on the previous page, and that is how we have been playing the whole time Red + Green trashed = (20 + 20) * 2 = 80. As I look at the wording again and applying some programmer's logic, I think there is a way to interpret it differently and make the mechanic itself a little less broken.
The initial text says "When you trash a 'Green Herb' or 'Red Herb' from your hand... another way that I read this is 'When you go to trash one or the other..." not "Every time you trash one or the other...." the act of trashing Both a Red & Green completes the 'OR' conditional operator. I trashed both herbs at the same time (due to the red herb effect) therefore it is 'true' that I trashed a Red OR Green. This is significant in that the act of only using these 2 herbs would net Claire only a max of 40 Damage (20 (Level 1)) * 2 (Level 2).
In order for Claire to do additional damage under this concept would require a single Green Herb for 20, and then a Red & Green for the double in which case would get the normally assumed 80 points of damage.
A AND B is not equal to A OR B. The red herb's effect causes both to be used at the same time therefore it is not A THEN B which would be needed for effect 1 to kick in for a 20 Then 20 bonus.
I know this is contrary to official ruling, but I believe that there is still room for this logical interpretation of it based on the wording. If the official ruling were to remain, I think the card should read "For every Green or Red Herb that is trashed from your hand..." extra 20, etc.
I know popular opinion may not consider her as broken anymore either, BUT the existing levels still provides the means of doing 80 damage for 2 cards shy of a rocket launcher is still higher than any other 2 card combo I'm aware of. 40 Damage: 2 Cards however is not. Even the Minigun + Claire (Premier) is only 40 Damage:2 Cards.
Long Awaited Dawn + Drawing could allow Claire to do (20 + 20 + 20 + 20) * 2 * 2 = 320 Damage:4 Cards. I still think that's broken.
Claire + Yoko = EPIC PWN! IMO Yoko with almost anybody = Win.
