    Alliance Claire Redfield

Is this really the way the character works?

You get +20 Damage when you trash a Green Herb.

You get +20 Damage when you trash a Red Herb.

Since trashing both Green & Red Herbs doubles her damage, does she still get the +20 from each of those Herbs prior to the doubling of damage?

I only ask because last night playing with the +40 damage before the double effect, we had a few games where Claire could easily break the 300 damage barrier and there was little anyone could do to stop her from winning. Is this how the card is intended to work? Or does the second effect override her first entirely?

no yeah that sounds about right, i suppose you could say that her ability simply rewards you for drawing both a red or green herb. I mean lets face it, many times simply the one green herb +20 damage will get you to where you need to go. Nobody is calling claire a slouch with these abilities.

As written, Claire is completely busted out of the barrel.

When Claire is leveled, she does 80 Damage by playing a Gathering Forces. It took us one game to house rule here that you can only use one of her abilities per turn.

You're missing a critical point to Claire's abilities.

She needs to have a reason to be trashing the herbs in the first place to activate either of her abilities. The wording is "When you Trash", it doesn't say "You may Trash". So you can't just trash an herb for no reason and activate her ability.

You would have to be Trashing the herb(s) by using them to heal, which you can't do if you and your partner are at full health. Or if you are trashing them due to an Action you've played. Also note the wording "from your Hand". So Shattered Memories wouldn't help you here either, because it trashes cards from your discard pile.

So, she has to either be healing, or playing Ominous Battle, or Quirk of Fate, to be able to activate her abilities.

You dont have to use Herbs on your character. You can use them on your opponents characters as well.

The new Claire is way too OP, my first game my friend got her and it was a total blow out.

I could see using it to heal an opposing player, but it makes absolutely no sense that you would be able to heal an uninjured character. That's plain abusing the Trash mechanic to streamline your deck, therefore breaking basic games rules. You HAVE to be able to play the herb, 'heal a character' to be able to trash it. Period. Unless you are trashing it via an action card effect.

The 'opposing'character bit would be some grey area, but the herb does specifically say, 'trash to heal a character', it only specifies 'your character' when trashing 2 herbs together.

I'm sorry Slick, but you are incorrect. When you play a card that you cant do all of it's effects, you do as much as you can.

    Example:

Escape from Dead City: no cards in inventory and discard, nothing happens (but you can still play the action to get more actions and fuel semi auto rifle)

Shattered Memories: No cards in discard. Can still play Shattered Memories to fuel semi auto.

Green Herb: Full health, Can still trash to get it out of your deck.

welcome to optimizing your build. I played Claire today and abused Gathering Forces with Green Herbs. Punching for 80+ with no weapon is fun.

Wow, that is an extremely broken mechanic then. In no way shape or form should you be able to trash a card without actually playing it. That definitely needs a fix. The whole poimt of the game is to manage the deck, freebie trashing doesn't make sense in regards to that.
