J954 + J963

My question is if i play j954 Taking a Hostage let the chain resolve then play j963 with the same user to put in play a ninja of the entrance cost or lower does the user bounce back to my hand or does the target of j954 get discarded? and do i still get to put in play a ninja with j963 effect if they get discarded?

You would put in play a Ninja for first. Then, instead of the user returning to hand, the Ninja targeted by would be removed from play instead.
