I think you're overestimating the competence of the average government agency.
Like I said, maybe some elements of the government are trying to "silence people" or whatever who know "the truth". I doubt they'd actually be able to succeed.
The real danger is in the influx of corporate money and lobbyists, but that's more of a flaw of the political system rather than malicious intent on the part of some random government bureaucrats.
Sensationalist mainstream media appealing to a massively ignorant audience doesn't really help either. Of all the things you listed, most of the information is publicly available (much of it through the government apparently trying to silence everybody). It's just that far too many people won't be informed because they'd rather watch Jersey Shore. People aren't being silenced - they're silencing themselves.
