in what possible way does the cooler movie match up with the normal timeline? Goku had the ability to go super saiyan at will the FIRST time we see him back on earth after he fights frieza. since cooler attacked earth, goku would have been able to be super saiyan instantly, and wipe the floor with cooler, instead of waiting so long to transform. the cooler movie is NOT in continuity with the main story.
