Allanime's General Freaking Gencon (GFG) Report.
Wanna start by saying I LOVED Gencon, as in the con itself. The game room was nice (annoyed it's not 24 hours like youmacon) Battle mechs were sweet to see in action, exhibit hall was pure epic, the hentai cafe panels and cosplay Deviants were the best surprise ever, and I managed to snag a piece of anime swag I wanted more than ever before. Epic con is Epic.
Now, as for the tourney itself: Round 1 - Versus Scumbag Bandai Get auto loss because for the first time ever Bandai decides to strictly enforce a time limit. We arrived 9:30 and apparently Timer was already set and running. I can't be THAT mad since ever since last MI SJC and hearing stories of others, I was one of the "Bandai needs to start earlier, or be more strict" votes. Just annoyed the time they decide to do it costs me a win. 0-1 Round 2 - Versus Jordan (Big Boy) Good guy, reminds me I keep meaning to like walk around and place SN's to Faces since I'm bad with real names anyways, but I kept getting distracted by other stuff. Anyways, we go back and forth the first game like playing punchies, and I end up winning it. Game 2 though he open fires on me and while I held up, I cave eventually. Game 3 I mull down to 5, keep a horrid hand, and regret it for obvious reasons. 0-2 Round 3 - VS. Mental Deck I forget the guys name, but I do recall hating a mirror match. My deck is more "Use effects and regular earth strategies" that just happens to run lots of mental. this was a full fledged "Get dat MP batle" deck, and it was nuts. We go full on until I win game 1, but he has a 22 MP team game 2 that whittles me down for win. Game 3 I use after the battle to draw 3 wind cards, hard charge and play First Hokage, double hydro pump for GG. 1-2 Hope restored! Round 4 - Versus Tony Luchetti Annnnditsgone!.jpg Me an this guy been playtesting back and forth for monthss since we decided to go. This match was gonna be crazy good, or it would have been if he hadnt mulled to 4 and still pulled bad. However, I screwed up 3 times myself. After going to like turn 20 something, he runs that pump flame sage training loop andd I got no hope. Game 2 I mull to 5 pulling 4 jutsus and Sabiru. GFG!!!! 1-3 Round 5 - Versus Cosplay Deviants and "The Spoils" My opponent doesnt show up, I get the win. I go visit Kandi and Porphylia at the deviants booth for more chatting on last nights 18+ Panel (Where I ended up a semi-idol shirtless guy playing a nerdy family feud) and learn a new game called The Spoils. Pretty neat actually. I arrive back at the tounrey bout 5 minutes before next round. 2-3 Round 6 - Versus ?????? Wow, I blanked on just....everything. I notice Tony D. back a few tables and am asking wtf happened, overhear he got a Genjutsu f*yay*king and lost 2 games in a row. Tobi is now gone and I find out KillerKimi's deck is stolen, so no saying hi to him. Plus, I keep trying to remind myself "TALK TO PEOPLE" This was another earth deck, but it wasn't actually mental based. In fact, it seemed Lightning/Earth. I win purely because no matter the jutsu, I had an answer (Punch, Transfer, Rotation, whatever) in both rounds. 3-3 Round 7 - Versus ?????? I am freaking starving and want food. I don't remember this match. I remember winning. I need to just write this stuff down in my notebook. After winning, I remember snackies in backpack and munch to full health. 4-3 Final Round - Versus Rockleeac sorry I can only remember your SN on here. Anywho, at first his deck just seems some weird lightning Tailed Beast thing. It's not till he fetches Doppelganger. FREAKING 9-TAILS! I win Game 1 thanks to 3 team swing, which is good cause with that mission he had it next turn. Game 2 I side in my third secret book, and my Shimon just in case. It gets intense and crazy until suddenly, somehow, he injures Shimon. He plays doppel and I book him, ONLY to have him Hina the book. As he places the fox I look down and remember (with him showing my hand out) my only hope, and I immediately Sabiru his 9-tails. He organizes a team, but whether he sent or not, I just sac off Deidara with his effect for my last 2. Final Standing: 5-3 - 35th place I'm a little irritated that I somehow miss out on top 32, just barely too. Probably because I convinced the kid from round 3 to drop. Oh well, I get my 4 packs, immediately turn around and sell them off, and enjoy the Saturdat Night Hentai Dubbing panel afterwards (and THAT night is a whooooooolllle nother story, maybe for Facebook version for anyone that's added me) Pros: - Holy crap Genre is a sexy beast. Dude, wtf you doing playing card games? Bandai, y u no have this dude in photoshoots/commercials? - Met Blandin, Genre, Big Boy, and saw KK at a table. Slowly but surely I will remember you all. - Considering my first SJC I went fully against the meta and scrubbed out at 64th, placing 35th isn't bad. Especially at Gencon. - Learned new games (Like Spoils and Uncharted), played old ones, and just Gencon itself, and just the fun had. ![]() Cons (no pun intended): - That first round loss. It will forever bug me. I mean, had I gotten say a fire deck (that in testing I do good against) or maybe a less desructive rush or something, I COULD have potentially finished 6-2. Hell I didn't even care about topping, 8 packs of S26 would have made me plenty happy. Bandai, please explicitly mention and enforce times and such. ![]() - Not remembering to meet anyone, especially Botchis or MJM. I didnt get my autograph either ![]() - Lack of munnies. My financial planning really needs to get better. - No freaking wifi, and just the center in general. I mean, shutting stuff down like gaming room and what not, made it pointless to stay passed 10 (unless you attended the Hentai Cafe panel, then you stayed till 1) so overall I was out of innernets unless at the hotel, which I rarely was because all we did there was sleep. - Broken cards. I'm looking at you First Hokage and Sealing. You're hitting that list along with fourth, wait and see. - None of the group topped either, and Kyle never got to come. It felt weird. KYLE! YOU ARE COMING NEXT YEAR! We are already planning stuff out. Over all, it's not bad for my first Gencon tourney, and I didn't exactly wash out (People kept saying total participants before droppers started dropping was ~120-130) so 35/120 is pretty legit. No shocker a Lightning/X deck won though So looking forward to rotation and new format.Next year man, next year~ ![]() |
