I thought the Japanese game was done. I had no idea they had cards go that far into the story. Is the American game really still using Japanese card art?

That one's not bad, but I would prefer an art that displays his use of the 1st Hokage's DNA also.

I hope it isn't so easy to get out. I like restrictions when it comes to putting ninjas in play. Definitely shouldn't work with any turn 4 or lower Sasuke, unless there is only 1 Sasuke that can put it in play imho.

This set sounds pretty good. Looking forward to it now!

Who thinks each keyword goes to a different element?

Sounds about right. Keyword prediction time anyone?

As for the Rasengan, i'd rather they just reprint one of the many earlier ones in a starter or something. Gives more Rasengan access and doesn't waste set space on a potential bad card. Most preferably I want the one that pumps and can draw a card if you win victory or outstanding.
Yeah, I really dislike those specific cards, like Susano'o for Itachi and Naruto forms for just 1 Naruto. Forces you to play them and none of the others. As if other Itachis can't bring out Susano'o, or other Narutos have no Kyuubi inside them. Hopefully the new Naruto forms won't be tied to a new Naruto. As for Rasengan, yeah, a reprint will do as well, there are so many Rasengans out there in Unlimited. They should also make Chidori Stream, it's one of Sasuke's main jutsus after all yet there is not a single one in Block lol...

I'll play!

Some MTG keywords that might be fun if they made it to this game in some form:

Deathtouch - Zabuza DOCV but dumbed down a bit, in keyword form: When this ninja deals battle damage to your opponent's ninja, discard it.

First Strike - maybe it forces that ninja's team to be the first battle that resolves? Sometimes the order of battle resolution creates specific advantages.

Flash - can you imagine a jutsu with flash? :scared:

Indestructible, Protection and/or Shroud - not likely, most people wouldn't appreciate OC-like effects coming back.

Trample - more cards like Kakashi ES.

I like the Deathtouch idea. Big bad powerful character super rares could have this as a keyword and then some basic effect. Same with Trample.
I wouldn't mind double strike. Something like Lee and Might Guy platoon. (Maybe: when a ninja wins any victory, you can remove it from the team. In that case only this ninja may be sent out.)
Your Flash Idea might be good for missions! Missions that could say end a battle phase or something. There's a lot of potential for good keyword ideas.

maybe the key words are just based off more unique abilities. bandai has tyler working on other games for them. probably grabbed some basic abilities from RE:.DBG or uncharted board game. think of some of the basic abilities they could translate into keywords from those games.
OR
did battle spirits have keywords? same for DBZ?

There have actually been four different Naruto CCG in Japan.

The first followed the original series and is the basis for what our CCG was based on, sharing nearly identical mechanics. It lasted 17 sets and covered all the way from what out Path to Hokage to Approaching Wind (sans the Shippuden era cards that were in Approaching Wind).

The second was the Shippuden series, which was similar in concept to the first CCG but made some changes that were actually incorporated into our Dragonball CCG game here in America (charging chakra off the top of the deck, chakra costs instead of hand costs, techniques during mission phase, warriors going to chakra instead of discard upon dying, etc). It lasted 8 sets and lended nearly all it's artwork for A New Chronicle to The Will of Fire for us.

The third ran parrallel to the other two sets and beyond and was the Datacarddass game, which at one point sported stats that made them usable in the original Japanese Naruto CCG and then stats that let them be usable in the Shippuden Naruto CCG game, then they didn't have any stats on them except for what they were used for, and that was for an arcade game were you inserted the cards into the machine during play in order to unlock characters and use them in battle as well as do special moves and power up. That game lasted about 7 or 8 sets and lended artwork that was used throughout the history of our game since the first introduction of US exclusive cards in Eternal Rivalry up until now. There is still a plethora of artwork that still has not been used, but that is all up to whether Bandai US actually has the rights to the artwork or not.

The fourth and current Naruto CCG is part of the Miracle Battle franchise, which is a game that plays in a similar style to Battle Spirits, but rather than some obscure source of inspiration, it is a combination of Five different Shonen Series that each have their own specific sets and special exclusive mechanics, but all together can be played due to the core mechanics being the same. The current series in Miracle Battle are: Dragonball, One Piece, Toriko, HunterxHunter, and finally Naruto Shippuden. The first Naruto Shippuden series launched this April and actually started in the Kage Summit arc, but included characters all the way up to into the War Arc a bit (Kabuto in his Cloak, Tobi with his new outfit, Darui with the pot from the Kinkaku Brothers, Mifune in his armor). I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of the artwork from it as time goes by.

And that is your history lesson on the Japanese Naruto CCG games.
