all the current block legal sets are worth getting. i'd suggest looking up cards w/ the card search engine and making a deck and aim for specific sets you'd want that way.

Another thought occurred to me, what themes are relevantly unused at the moment. I've always been one for themed decks like Stone or Bee decks

As another unlimited player, I suggest you reconsider you skepticism toward unlimited. It's pretty challenging with the widest variety of deck types & themes. Speaking of which, if you really like making unorthodox themes like stone or bee, then your best bet is unlimited.
If you play block, you'll see the same handful of themes over & over again, but if you play unlimited, you can combine some of the newer cards with the older ones. The tailed beast theme for example, if you want all 9 tailed beasts in it then you have to play unlimited, because most of the past tailed beasts are no longer block legal. |
