N878 vs Leaf Ninja + N871

If a Leaf Ninja is in the same team as and that Leaf Ninja would be discarded, could it still be taken with 's effect?
In other words, when a Ninja "would be discarded", is it still considered to be in the team it was in? I know the Leaf Ninja wouldn't leave play, but I wanted to make sure it was still in the team or not.

It is still in the Team, and N-871 would protect it, but then the Ninja would be discarded as normal.
