Jutsu chains

If I have ninja and during the exchange of jutsu I play a jutsu to get rid of my opponents ninja and in response my opponent plays a jutsu that gets rid of my ninja instead. Now what happens to my Justu and the chakra I paid to play it. Do I get my Justu and chakra back or does the jutsu go to the chakra area and my chakra stay in the discard pile ?

The jutsu you played would fail and go to your chakra area, and you do NOT get the chakra you used to pay for that jutsu back.
