So if the First Hokage was as bad *** as everyone is making him out to be, then how powerful must the Third have been to be able to go toe to toe with him, even for a couple of seconds.

This. I've be wondering how, if the first was the nuts, and didn't actually help the third during the fight, how was the old third even able to fight him...

What everyone has to remember is that Orochimaru implanted those talismans into Tobirama and Hashirama at the start of the fight and wiped their personalities. So It wasn't as much The First and Second vs The Third, but more like Orochimaru with his hands up the First and Second's ***** flailing them at The Third. Think Ginyu in Goku's body, Orochimaru had to direct them through the link with the talisman to do any jutsu or attack, so their actual power level was severely limited compared to how they would have been.

Kabuto was able to improve the Edo Tensei by leaps and bounds, allowing him to maintain the personality of the people he summoned as well as completely control their movements, while having access most likely to their minds to allow him to know just what kind of techniques he could have them use during the battle.

To shorten it all out, Oro's Edo Tensei was weak and incomplete, so his revived people were weaker in comparison, whereas Kabuto was able to bring people back at full strength and allow them a minor level of free movement if needed, but also utterly control and master their techniques through them.

Tsunade stronget then the raikage awsome and the crazy 5 way kage combo was beast to bad madra is broken strong lol. As for kabutomaru ima laugh if sasuke ruins everything by killing him before itatchi can dissolve edo tensei.
