Mastery and chain

Hello!! I need some precision because when my friend is using is deidara with mastery, I am not sure if it is legal.

So to put you in context here we go:

My turn, I do my turn, na na na, and then I go in battle phase. I send one team of 18 of battle power. My friend block with it's team with Deidara, of course, and we pass then in exchange of jutsu.I do not use any jutsu but he does and play one. I do nothing else. THERE! My question is, if I do nothing and he do nothing in return, he apply his jutsu. So he does, do it's jutsu and pay for mastery. His jutsu goes in it's hand. Then do we pass in showdown or can he play it's jutsu again again and again until he got no more chakra with the same team, in the same battle phase?

I need clarification please!!

Once a chain has resolved, priority goes back to the attacker and you start anew. If both players pass while there is no chain, thats when you move to the showdown
