Me and my buddy have literally been giving kids entire decks to get them started and whenever I get Packs I take the rare and foil out and give away the rest. It seems to work we've gotten 12 people son far that play in the tourneys and a couple of hopefuls that could start playing competitively.
I notice kids really like the idea Of prize support too it really gets em.

The game in my area is close to completely dying, not that it was completely alive since the start.

We had like 5-7 people and at least 2 people are thinking of quitting, and if they quit, I might be thinkin' of it too... and that's a shame really.

We even started playing Pokemon...I mean... POKEMON... Mother flippin' Pokemon!

I mean, I'm even thinkin' 'bout playing Yu-gi-oh!... Just to play in a tournament that I don't have to drive almost 3 hours to get there...

I do this all the time. I've gotten 4 plus people into the game by giving them cheapies. I get rid of Jank, I make some money, and I add to the community. I then help them get better and better stuff.

In CT, we used to get as many as 25 people for tournaments, but that was back in the first several sets of the game (Set 1 - 5 or so). I really think that as a result of the Freedori Meta (3 ES Kakashi, 3 APW, 3 Chidori, 3 8 Trigrams, 3 Sasuke BTL, 3 Inherits, 22 other cards) a lot of the people who weren't able to get at least the specifically mentioned cards (with APW being the hardest), they just didn't feel like playing and losing to those who did have the deck made in full.

So after that, we dropped to maybe 10-12 people. By that point, our core members had been established though and we all got to know eachother and be friends. It wasn't until later on around Set 11 or so that we all consdiered ourselves a Team though (CT Crew).

It got to a point where it was literally the 8 of us core players every week, which the occasional extra few people (Who were unaware of Block or that the tournaments were Block Format).

Nowadays, I think we have four or five extra folks, who we lovingly refered to as "The Scrubs". But it seems they are coming into their own now, so I would say the core playerbase there is now around 10 people, maybe 12.

Also of note, for no particular reason, another local shop actually suddenly started an interest in Naruto for a few months, when The Chosen was released. I firmly beleive this was only because x2 Gaara starters = rudimentery Over 9K deck.

On Topic: It's completely your fault for losing OP prizing Amir.

My group probably WOULD do that if there was ever anyone in the card shop we play in. The store is so dead all the time.

I sold my winning playmat from last tourny for 10 to a new guy. Told 2 little kids if they keep coming back ill bring both a playmat next week for free. Spent time playing with a new guy for fun to give deck constuctive criticizim even though I hate playing against mill. I always give away pack remainders after the foil. It's the little things. Mostly you just gotta keep a fun atmosphere.

yeah. our store just doesn't get anyone. i've been thinking about hitting the comic stores(where they sell the stuff) and see if there's anyone that has been buying cards but doesn't know about our locals. but after that, there isn't even a comic store within 45min from us. its cacapeepeepoopoos
