Sasuke had to go because the only way around him was to dehydrate him or run puppets. If you are running the current puppet deck, you are probably going to lose any way, if you run dehydration, that means that you have to run either water or earth to do any thing about it. Mind transfer is a jutsu, which means that it can be countered by any other deck that runs jutsu. It only has a "possibility" of being devastating.
Puppets aren't that bad.

But they don't compete well with the other elements right now. Puppets are at the bottom of the totem pole right now as far as competitive decks go.
