What is extended?

Extended is a format where we can use old decks along side the new ones. As the name suggests, the block format is extended to include the previously rotated set of cards.

Current block format consists of: sets 15 - 20. At the time of sannin, we will have sets 15 - 22 in block rotation. When rotation occurs at the time of Gencon, sets 15 - 17.5 will rotate out.

Thus, extended will be born. Extended will consist of sets 15 - 22 rather than block formats 18 - 22.

During Gencon of 2012, there will be another rotation (along side the block format), and sets 15 - 17.5 will rotate out of extended.

You can think of extended as double block, similar to how MTG calls their current extended format double standard.
