The only difference thus far with the SJC kits is the inclusion of SJC Winner and Finalist mats but other than that electronics are the same as the Kages earlier this season.
No trophies or exclusive promos yet.

The prizing is so bad it's not worth traveling to. Please tell me Gencon is going to be better than this.

ok so we get jumps back.. well if they aren't going to add a trophy or a psp for 1st place can they at least add more booster boxes to the prizing (tales of the gallant sage)? i figure that's at least more cost efficient to them, but at least worth something more to the players.
see now people travel to yugioh events because the winner can make money from winning the event. for example, even if i won a jump/kage and sold all of my prizing i still would just have made my money back from the traveling expenses. the prizing doesn't encourage competitive players to travel to events that are out of their state.. |

So, it sucks to say this but Trophies are probably the least cost effective thing Bandai can do. Between the cost of having each one custom made, shipped, and insured, it just doesnt make sense for Bandai to even bother with trophies. Pokemon actually stopped doing trophys for their states events for the exact same reason, though they shipped out 50 trophies (But in all fairness, they have much more money to work with, and a much larger player base). It's unfortunate, because I know how awesome it is to get a trophy for winning, but atleast winners will now be able to walk away with an exclusive mat to symbolize their victory, instead of nothing at all.
Bandai brought back SJCs, and gave us the Event exclusive mats that we have been asking for forever... Give them some credit. Prizing might be down from last season still, but they met us halfway with the exclusive mats and SJC publicity. I think thats pretty **** good considering the fact that they could have easily done nothing more than given us "Kage events" for the rest of the season like they initially intended. On a side note, I'm also interested in what Jerry is asking in the post above. I'm pretty sure players would like to get more product at the very least, as it helps them get the cards they need to continue playing on a competative level, and it's pretty low expense for you guys. I dont think it's too unreasonable to ask for another box for first and second, with another half a box for 3rd-8th. Regardless, I think this was a step in the right direction for Bandai, and I'll see you guys at PA and Gencon. |

I lol'd at the "Becoming a top player is a great goal but remember that with any game you should be having fun first! The prizes are just a nice added bonus but playing games with your friends is better. "
Target audience still makes me cringe. That aside, I hope you guys got something besides just being able to put sjc on the kage events, like are they advertising naruto tcg in the magazine or are you able to recoup some of the cost? Naming rights can be pretty expensive, just seems odd that nothing got increased as a result of this. While I disagree that people won't travel out of state, I don't think they will travel outside of driving range. I also don't think increasing the prize support by a box would change that. However, I do think you would get a lot more people interested in making the trip within driving range if you do increase it by a box or four. When people plan for these trips they do make a cost calculation against how much they can win. And when they do that its not just one trip they have in mind, its everything in their region. As soon as someone decides "its just not worth it", their interest in the game as a whole is lost. They have nothing to look forward to in the game or not nearly as often. And they become less interested in events in general, even the ones that do make sense. I'm not saying that this is currently the case, but throwing players a bone in regards to amt of packs will go a long way to helping the people who are on the edge about going to these things. And the additional amount of packs you are giving out is nominal. I'm sure its a fraction of what you guys lose in "shipping" every year .As far as the name change, if it helps you guys on your end or you see it as doing something with marketing, kudo's. But that's about all it means to me. Last edited by yodaz : 03-22-2011 at 09:27 PM. |
