I would say it depends if you just take away Kakashi's Sharingan right now he would probably lose to everyone of the Leaf's Jonin, but if Kakashi never had the SE he would probably be a great ninja without it, it's just the fact that he mastered using his SE but if you were in his situation you would do the same. But if he never had the SE he probably would still be better than Asuma because of his high intellect and battle wariness.
