New Rulings

As you may have, or have not, seen, there have been some ruling updates, revisions and such in the past couple of months. These rulings usually go into effect as they are posted, but for those that are not aware, I will attempt to pull them all together here.

1. The End Phase has been updated and the way effects Chain, especially N-US035, is noted here:

and in Post 3, here:

2. The Showdown has been slightly revised to limit the Timing for some effects to J (4.0.1), as noted in Post 4, here:

3. The ordering of effects during the Send Out Steps have been revised as noted in Post 5 here:

4. The ruling regarding card effects that provide an effect while in a non-in-play zone is updated to reflect that that card need not be played first, but may just be moved, sent, charged, etc. to that non-in-play zone.

5. "must be sent out to Battle, if possible" - the game checks at the time that the player is ready to send out their Teams to Battle. The game does not restrict or force a player to do, play, or make an action, as well as prevent a player from performing any action, before that time (including how they choose to Organize their Teams). The only action that the game forces the player to do, is at the time that Teams are sent out to Battle, that player must send out that Ninja to Battle as one of the 3 (or less) Teams that that player can send out per turn, as long as another effect prevents it from doing so.

5a. Example: If the Attacker sends out 1 Team to Attack, and the Blocker has 2 Ninjas that 'must be sent out to Battle, if possible', and they are on different Teams, then the Blocker can choose which to send out to Battle.

5b. Example: If the Attacker sends out 1 Team to Attack, and the Blocker has 2 Teams, 1 of which has a Ninja that 'must be sent out to Battle, if possible', then the Blocker must send out that Team to Block.

5c. Example: If the Attacker has 4 Teams and 1 of those Teams have a Ninja that 'must be sent out to Battle, if possible', and the Attacker sends out 3 Teams to Attack, the Attacker must send out that Team as 1 of the Teams that are sent out to Attack.

6. Effects that state "Entrance cost", "Hand cost", "Combat", "Power", etc. refer to the current values of those numbers, unless the effect states "printed".

7. "Animal" Characteristic - if a Ninja does not have this Characteristic listed, unless it is in the Errata section of this site, the Ninja does not have the "Animal" Characteristic.

8. "Reveal" - when a player is prompted to 'reveal' cards from a specified zones, those cards, or what remains of them after the effect, are returned to that particular zone, unless the card effect specifies otherwise.

9. "While you have only "Female" Ninjas in play..." - this template, and similar templates look for the Characteristic noted on all cards that you currently have in play. For the template noted, if those Ninjas do not have the "Female" Characteristic (i.e., a non-sex Ninja, "Animal", etc.), or if a Ninja has the "Male" Characteristic, or if a Ninja has the "Male" Characteristic in addition to the "Female" Characteristic then this continuous effect will not be in-play. <This is a ruling reversal of the current ruling.> Due to the timing of this ruling, this reversal will go into effect as of Dec. 7, 2009.

10. Ninjas with No Symbol - A Ninja with no symbol, is similar to the situation in Rule 9 above. It simply does not have the Symbol and therefore is different from the Ninja with a Symbol. In a way, 'No Symbol' is like a 6th Symbol that cards like Pass Permit (M-056) look for.
