Questions answered by other players
I would like to address this topic in my own way.
If someone posts a question to either Q&A or to Gen Dis, and receives an answer from an anonymous person, or from someone claiming to know the rules and giving you an answer, and you take that answer to your local event, or even to an official sanctioned event, to show to your judge, the judge really doesn't need to abide by that decision since it really isn't an official response. Heck, in some cases players have taken responses by me to their local or sanctioned events and the judges have ignored them (and truthfully, since the post can be doctored electronically, that could actually be a good thing.) If the players wish to have their questions answered in this manner to expedite an 'answer', then by all means, go for it. But it still is not in any way an official response. A better way to do this would be to link answers from the Q&A to the players question. I do appreciate that players would like to get involved and answer other players questions. But the rules are changing a bit, and some of the moderators in Q&A have stopped answering questions due to this. I have been found to slip once or twice, but I have the advantage of an 'edit' function that I can update or correct previous posts by myself or by others. Finally, if someone posts a question in Q&A and that question then has a post by the player saying that the question was answered by someone else, then that question will most likely be deleted. I have my reasons for doing this in this manner instead of answering the question over the response. Again, I appreciate that players wish to help other players in this manner, and can appreciate that some players do have a grasp of the game rules. But I have found in the past that rulings given in this manner tend to compile on the already mountain of rulings given by local judges that don't understand the rules themselves. |
