3/30/06 Myke`s Card of the Day: The Third Hokage

Name: The Third Hokage
Type: Ninja
Element: Fire (duh!)
Turn Cost: 6
Hand Cost: 1
Characteristics: Leaf | Village Leader | Male
Flavor: "There`s no longer any need to worry"
Battle Attribute: Ninjutsu
Healthy: 6/4
Injured: 4/2
Effect:
[Village Governor]
At the beginning of your turn, you may discard 1 card in your chakra area to heal 1 of your injured Ninjas.

Rules Note: Although at the GAMA tourney it was said you could discard any amount of available chakra to heal any amount of ninjas. According to the Japanese site, you can only discard 1 card per turn for his effect and effects similar to it.

(Reference: http://www.carddas.com/naruto/faq/faq.shtml - Question #46)

With a Healthy Attack of 6. Hokage is one of the strongest ninjas in the first set. Add in an ability to heal 1 ninja a turn. Hokage turns your village into one giant brick wall. Unless your opponent can manage to injure him, his ability will probably assure you a victory.

Not only his is attack one of the best in the set, his ability is the best in the set. A great combo of offense and healing, this guy should always be thought about when running decks with "Fire" in it.

Yes his turn cost of 6 is also one of the highest in the set, but when you need a late game win. He often will provide it on his own.

Mykes Rating: 5/5

What do you think?

Being that this card is Uncommon it is VERY good. THose stats are pretty high and that effect is also a key effect. any fire deck MUST have this. my rating 4.5/5

i agree, i won most of my games with this guy(as i have a gama deck) his only downfall, is the sexy no jutsu, but he also good being a support ninja, seeing as i beleive his effect is still usable

You can just leave him in the village healing the whole time if need be. Basically a far superior version of Hinata's ability

Dang good card, but I must say that I am a bit surprised by the ruling. In most games, when something refers to "the start of turn/phase" it only refers to the first action taken. I would consider that a bit of a balancing factor on great abilities such as this.

Still, excellent card. Can't wait to see tomorrow's.

Cheers,
-Matt

Only uncommon too. Very nice; looks like a cookie cutter staple to me, one which I will use. :P

The ruling given at GAMA is incorrect.

The folks running the demos likely aren't 100% on the rules of the game.

Indeed, i think im gonna go though that japanese FAQ and post any Questions that may be useful for cards in the first set, and all us newbies.

I almost always use Hokage as a support ninja, his support value of 4 isnt something to scoff at. If you are using Hokage as a lead ninja you may regret it.
