Hi! I'm a long-time fan of the anime+manga, and an active TCG player of other games. I'm potentially looking to pick/start this up, but I had a few questions. I'll list them out to make it a bit neater/easier to read.

1) I'm in northern-ish CO (Broomfield/Thornton area), where's the nearest location(s) to play at?

2) When (day/time) and how often (once a week, every other week, etc.) do those location(s) meet to play?

3) I've seen there are 2 constructed formats, Block and Unlimited, which format(s) are typically played (both on a weekly basis, and for tournaments)?

4) For the regular 'meet-ups', is it just free-play, or a tournament format?

I'm sure I have other questions but for now I'll wait and see if any of those (hopefully) get answered. Thanks in advance!

I am the meijin and Gryphon Games and Comics and we run weekly events everyn Saturday at noon. As of late the tournaments have been casual and only last a couple of hours. Starting next month we should be having more tournament structured events. We run block legal events most of the time.

The meijin at Troll Counrty Games is Boxboy so he can set you straight on their events. As far as I know, they run 3 events each month on Saturday at around noon as well. They are fairly casual events but they are in tournament structure and require block format. Their tournaments usually run for 2-4 hours.

At Gryphon Games and Comics we can set you up with a free starter deck and promos (while supplies last) if you want to get started. As a note: Colorado Naruto is a very relaxed CCG environment. We have a very tight community and play for fun. We would love to welcome you into our community. Anyway, if you have any questions please ask.

Thank you for your time and interest! Happy Holidays!!!

-Kyle

Thanks for the quick response! Saturdays at noon will probably be pretty tough for me to make since I TO + Judge another TCG at that exact day/time in Boulder. We don't meet every week, though, so I may try to make it out to one of those locations at least once and meet some people .
I am glad to hear that it's Block format, which should allow me to pick stuff up pretty quickly if I decide to invest in the game. From what I've heard, trying to pick up at least a box each of the latest 2 sets (and possibly the latest TP) would be a pretty good idea to get started, or should I get some of the earlier sets as well? Also, is the 'block' format the same as MTG/WoW? I.E. - Currently it looks like sets 22-26 are legal? So will it take until set 28 for 22-24 to rotate out, or do they do a different rotation system for Block?

edit: Edited one of my questions, edit in italics

Understandable. I work Saturday nights right now so that is why our tournaments have been shorter. But once the holiday season is over I will not be doing that anymore so we will go back to official block tournaments.

The block format is Sets 22-27 with TP4. The sets do not rotate out until around August whenever the set releases around then. With that in mind you really should try to get some cards from every set, but definitely invest in the last 2 sets. As a warning, set 25 is a hard to find set and you would have to buy a case of it to get any good super rares so avoid that set. Also, in my opinion, the last TP was not very good, but buying a box of it would not be bad, but I would not buy more than a box or two.

My suggestion would be to buy the last two sets and then pick up singles from the other sets from Troll and Toad or trading. And I know that myself and others would probably be willing to give you some common, uncommons, and possibly rares if we have them to spare.

Anyway, we definitely hope to see you around and Gryphons will be running a tournament this week if you can stop by. We will provide you with a free starter deck and promos but the tournament will be from noon til 2.

Thanks for the heads-up on the previous set stuff. Definitely good to get some insight from a regular player's perspective. We're doing a few tournaments this weekend so I won't be able to make it up there this Saturday, but I'll see what the players at the store I TO at want to do next month and should be a bit more clear on availability afterwards ^^

the World of Warcraft TCG is what I judge/TO (and play) here in CO

your post just says 'we start at pm' >.>; is that a typo? O.o

I may have some time afterwards on Sat so I'll try to make it out there, if possible. My buddy Leon who plays MTG there has been tryin to get me out there for months :X
