Jarrett took the liberty of copy/pasting my post on my site on here.

The "I" in the topic is actually me talking.

I was hoping to wait for KublaCon's approval before broadcasting it to the world, so here's to assuming they're ok with it.

What would be even more awesome is if I can get the winner inserted into Scrye. Time will tell.

I'll be there, either as a player or a judge. Looking forward to seeing you all.

I'm totally psyched about the possibility of a tournament at KublaCon! I also contacted them about running something. Matthew, perhaps send me a PM and we can coordinate? I don't want to step on toes, and it'd be nice to work together.

Also, I think you should be careful about the money stuff, because I'm pretty sure KublaCon has rules against that sort of thing. Especially if you're going to be profiting off it...

As it stands now, you could lose $50 if only 15 players show up at $15 each, or make a lot of money if a lot of players show up at $20 each. At the very least, if KublaCon allows such money events, you might consider changing to a percentage of the pot to the winners, instead of a fixed amount to ensure you don't lose/make significant amounts of money.

Either way, thanks for organizing, and let's coordinate!

1. No one who prepares ahead will be entering at $20 since either a) I'll have a computer so they'll sign up before entering or b) they'll sign up before coming. The $20 is really a joke :P. It was suggested by staff on my site to get people posting since no one posts about Naruto on my site.

2. I have no intention of making money; if I do, then a) prizes will escalate and go down to top 8 or b) will be held for future events (probably not since that'll be somewhere else).

3. I don't actually assume more than 35ish people will come anyway. That's almost the break even mark since I'll need to buy packs and whatnot. I set the event at 40 people at the moment as an upper maximum, though I'm sure that more people won't be a problem.

4. I assume I will be losing money from my pocket, though I hope it won't be more than say $50. I have a verbal agreement with a sponsor at the moment and I hope it goes through real soon, and if so I can easily contribute more.

5. I don't like percentages because it doesn't guarantee prizes and that often discourages people. What I will do is if I have enough people posting on my site saying that they're coming I'll have a general idea what the prizing SHOULD look like, and adjust it likewise.

Anyone other questions find me on my site since I actually check that one... whenever I actually go online.

EDIT: And I guess I forgot to mention I do plan to give out packs for all those who don't go into the cash, as well as promos and hopefully I can get Bandai to support us as well. So just because the math shows that I'd actually be in the green, the excess will actually go towards buying packs/other product.

I agree that (a) would be a great solution. I recommend you advertise it as such, to avoid people thinking that you will be profiting off the event (I think the KublaCon folks will frown on that heavily.) If you simply say, "I will pay out all entry fees as cash or prizes," then people will understand your intention.

Obviously you can spend your money how you want, but if you reconsider the idea of providing percentages, then you will safeguard yourself.

Perhaps you're thinking about "guarantee" differently from me. If you say, "All money collected as entry fees will be paid out as cash as follows:
1st: 1/2 total amount collected
2nd: 1/4 total amount collected
3rd-4th: 1/8 each total amount collected"

That is a steadfast guarantee.

As you have it now, it appears as though you could be pocketing a lot of the money yourself (which I know is not your intention or plan, but it seems that way from the announcement.)

I added a note at the end of my KublaCon submission that all entrance costs will be given out as prizes in some way/shape/form, whether it is product or actual cash.

According to an email I just received, I will receive confirmation around April 15.
