Jutsu names, character names...
Alrite something has been bothering me a bit. So far I liked the game and it has exceeded my expectations. I have to admit, given Bandai's previous record, I was a bit apprehensive, but so far it is turning out okay.
My only preference would have been to leave the names of the Jutsus the way it is rather than translate it. I know that for some, it maybe difficult to pronounce the japanese sounding phonetics, however, it just feels...a bit odd. You know its like watching animie dubbed and not subtitled. Anyone else feel this way or is this just me? They left Sharingan and Byakyugan why couldn't they leave the others. I know that Katon: Goukakyu no Jutsu (sp?) would have been difficult, but something like Kage Bushin (sp?) is so common that it has become a trademark IMO. anyway that is one of my gripes. The other albeit very minor, would be that they leave the names the way they should be, last name first, then first name last. i don't know why i'm just so used to hearing it that way to read it otherwise is weird. Again, I know that the culture is different but I would have liked it that way. Okay thanks for hearing me out. |

Actually I feel the same way also, but then again they want to make this game appeal to a much wider, and younger American, not just us avid Anime fans. I'm just glad they decided to keep "Sharingan" and "Byakyugan", at one point I think they were changing "Byakyugan" to "White-Eyes". I wish they could keep "Chidori" though, instead of naming it "Lightning Blade".

what your saying makes me wonder if they are going to give the "Rasengan" to something else when he learns it. I greatly dislike the english dubbing. The reason that they don't leave the last first is because it probably they're use to having it people names the way they are over here in teh states or canada, so when they hear something like Uchiha Sasuke and realize his name is Sasuke(first name) and not Uchiha they automatically think that people will get confused or something. I think its stupid though.

yeah, some of the things I understand, but for some, I would really like it if they changed it. Lightning blade is one example. Chidori is just much cooler. Things like Lee's leaf whirlwind I can understand and even handle, but I would really like it if key or trademark moves, if you will, stay the same

I know what you mean. Kage Bunshin, Chidori and whatever else there is. I don't feel like typing all of them, but they really need to learn when to keep certain things just because its cooler and people who have seen the anime in Jap will also think its cool and possibly play the game because of that. I know a great deal of people who were disappointed because of the english dubbing. Its sad really. Another thing is the Naruto Rendan which he first does against Kiba. I hope they keep that, but I already know that they wont.

I wonder how will Rasengan be called in English, "Chakra Ball"?

Actually "Lightning Blade" is Raikiri. We don't really know yet if they're going to translate Chidori, but I suppose they will. I also would have preferred the original Japanese names for the techniques. But my friends and I still use the Japanese names when we play the cards.

I agree that they did it to make it appeal to a larger audience. No way to help it really. Either way and they will have someone complaining. Remember Pokemon or Pocket Monsters for those of you who like to original better. They could have left the names the same, but changed them for the american audience. They were changed again for the European audience as well. I agree that I like my anime subtitled with the original heart and soul of the voice actors intact, but I can see it from Bandai's point of view. Just my $1.50 (inflation).
Cheers, Skippychan Maud'Dib!!! |
