meta discussion

how do you guys choose between JI, revitalize, genjutsu and combos (like mental mill and kabuto). All these decks are consistent and it seems like the difference in game is based mainly on good draws.. I'm tryin' to choose and its a hard decision.

JI is anything but consistent unless you run Fire/Wind dedicated to hand swapping. JI Fire/Wind Genjutsu, now that's something I can get behind. JI into a Jonin and maybe Sand Council into Sasuke, pass his effect or use Vaccum Blast, Use Genjutsu, and all sorts of fun like that.

Revitalize is meta but I find it boring to play. It buckles to rush decks too.

Mono-earth Mental is pretty good. T0 Shika + T1 Yoshino is probably the best starting curve in block. Oh, and The Power of the Trio is an insanely good tutor mission.

Kabuto Kombos are fun, but the fun comes too late to really keep up with good decks.

Just opinions.

rush is nothing for rev...its obviously the worst matchup but the mental makes its so rush just sits there

I build decks in a unique sort of way i'm told. Whatever the meta is, I immediately disregard it. I like to surprise people with what I run and take some chances. Plus, really makes tourneys more fun.

Granted, if it's possible, I can make a sideboard that shifts it more tooowards a meta like deck, for example I can Trun Ba Sing Se into a simplistic stalling revitalize deck, but otherwise I value "did anyone do this before?" as my main goal.

i follow the exact same motto. Honestly, why build a meta deck when you can build an unconventional deck than crush all the meta decks :P There are so many cards in block that i feel its such a waste not to use everything in your arsenal. Its fun to build random and see how it pans out.

What decks do i have build at the moment. I have a;

mono water - slow vs anything competitive but if survived late game it wins.
rinne rebirth - 35 ninjas 15 missions, mill the deck out, turn 4 sakuras tears to PIP my whole deck of "1ofs".
earth/water hand control- water wipe, a show of power, gentle fist, hinata
water/lightning - everyone loves to reinforce, killer bee, naruto, kisame, sasuke, jirobi

and i also have my meta decks:

fire/wind JI
- JI, sasori on turn 1 and bring my hiruko and tetragram the board
revit/water - revit with water so i can wipe chakra, control hand and still revit my cards

we all have different playstyles but i def agree with you allanime01. creating you own makes it that much more special and makes u feel good when you beat meta decks with your non-meta one.

I tried to be original. My toad decks from before were very unique, but now it's so easy to get blown out on turn 1 that there is little room for creativity.

Half of the meta now is just luck sack a blow out on turn 1. The other half is self mill, stall, and blow your opponent out in one shot mid to late game. I run a combination of both.
