N-444 Haku (Creed)

I just wanted to see about its effect it says that if you discard it then 1 of your ninjas cannot receive damage during that turn. But it does not designate when you choose which ninja or if you could wait to use its effect even after discarding it and just waiting to designate a target untill you wanted to.

Say for instance they use a jutsu to remove haku from play and you in response use his effect discarding him but wait to designate a target so if the opponent uses a jutsu that damages a ninja after that can you just designate it then or does it have to be when you first activate the effect. Because the cuurent effect text does not designate when you have to declare your target.

Remember that when you activate a ninja effect, the entire effect goes on the chain. When the effect resolves off the chain, Haku N-444 will be discarded, and you will pick the ninja that you want Haku N-444 to protect.
