(N-130): Baki
When this Ninja is sent out to Attack, it gets the following effect during the turn: “Valid: At the end of the turn, if this Ninja is in your Village, your opponent discards 1 of their in-play Ninjas.” with this errata it makes the opponent discard 1 of their in-play ninja, if they choose to discard N-289 while having lets say another copy of n-130 in their village will n-289 be discarded? according to some meijin it wouldnt be because it cannot be affected by ninja abilities, but the way N-130's ability is worded that looks more like a player action to me more than a effect being put on the chain targeting a ninja on the board. what is the way to resolve this situation does the ninja get nuked or will the ability just die off? |

N-130 is affecting the Ninja by having it discarded.
a player can choose a Ninja that is "unaffected by the opponent's effects" and that Ninja would not be discarded. |

I mean the confusion here is the way the text is written up. It clearly is making the player take an action as opposed to N-365 where when he comes into play you choose the character, hence forth target.
Would you say there could be a much better way to type out the ability? as in “Valid: At the end of the turn, if this Ninja is in your Village, your opponent chooses 1 of their in-play Ninjas and discards it." that to me would be a bit more clear as it specifically looks for a choice or target. not trying to get all R&D with you guys or anything its just to me its very vague how it makes the opponent take an action but its actually a targeting effect. |

second, this completely changes the effect and gives N-130 more power by making the entire effect Valid. also, it makes it such that it works if its the Attacker and the Blocker. a blanket ruling for having Ninja effects affecting other Ninja like this work better overall than creating a template and retexting existing cards to make Ninja effect targeting when there really has never been targeting on a Ninja effect. yes, the design team went over this a lot before coming to this decision. |

i was only refering to the Valid portion of the ability. but you still answered the question wether or not i had written the first part with it.
Since Ninja abilities dont target, i suppose it kind of makes the text up in the air a bit and becomes a Because Bandai implimented it that way. Overall we can say that anytime a ninja makes a player do something with their ninja's ninjas that arent affected by said abilities will just "counter" the ability and make it fail. its kool, i guess i can accept it as that. So in the game the only objects that designate targets are Jutsu and Missions? |

a card only has a target if the card notes a "Target" or states Target within the text somehow.
