Naruto DVD
So there I was, on the official American Naruto website. I decide to look and see how much the first volume of the Naruto DVD was. Twenty bucks. What a deal! Not so much. Upon further investigation I see,

Yep, July 4 is the release date for the first uncut bilingual Naruto 13-episode boxset, over 3 DVD discs. Reportedly, the price for these boxsets is going to be relatively cheap per episode when compared to other boxsets of other anime and especially to individual DVD releases of other anime and the edited series of Naruto. From there, the boxsets will be released on the first Tuesday of every six months, meaning the next uncut bilingual 13-episode boxset will be released on December 5, 2006.
Although it seems like a rather slow schedule to me at only 26 episodes per year, especially for an anime as long as Naruto, I'm still glad that the uncut bilingual series is going to be released in North America at all, especially when other anime based on Shonen Jump manga like, as you said, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Shaman King, and One Piece, did not receive such nice treatments. Perhaps Viz Media will follow this same release schedule for Bleach, but since it's airing on Adult Swim in fall 2006, I don't expect as many edits as Naruto, and that will probably not warrant a separate edited DVD release schedule for Bleach... |
