More like Pity. Orochi probably knew Kabuto was no good for Sage Mode, and seeing the man drunk with power and bested by Itachi probably just made him go "See? I knew you couldn't handle this. You weren't strong enough."
Kinda like a father and 2 sons "attention plea" dynamic. One son is praised and showered in attention, the other (despite trying 100 times harder in everything) is more or less ignored and shunned. In the end the prodigal son will shine and the forgotten one either self destructs (antagonists) or sacrifices/supports the prodigy (protagonists)

at least, thats how I seen it.
