Not only that, but DEAD people died AGAIN! Some of them being our favorite characters and such. Nagato was a good guy when he died, then got respawned to be evil and was controlled, so in a way that's them killing a good guy in this war right there.

Nagato did it to redeem himself, Jiraiya did it trying to stop Nagato in the first place, Asuma's death was more to snap Shikamaru into a more mature attitude. Shikaku, Ao, Inoichi, and everyone else there weren't defending anyone. They weren't able to pass on a life lesson. There was nothing heroic about it, excluding Shikaku's final plan. They were killed to prove that Naruto and Co. CAN'T protect everyone. Madara, Obito, and the 10 Tails basically said "Haha, you can't stop THIS!"

They died to pass on the plan of how to beat the 10 tails.

No, I don't understand why everyone thinks the HQ was in Konoha. It wasn't, it never was. Last time they showed them from the outside it was in a building in Cloud Village, the same place where the army gathered and Gaara gave his speech. It was because the Raikage was chosen as the leader of the alliance.

Mainly because most, if not all, of the interrogators we saw were from the Leaf.

The only Leaf ninjas were Inoichi, Shikaku and Tsunade (before she went on to fight). The rest were Cloud ninjas and that Ao guy, forgot which village he's from. Go re-read the chapters and you'll see for yourself. They never left the Cloud village after Gaara's speech in front of the army, at least that's how it was presented.
