Naruto Cup: Round 13 Nara Shikamaru vs. Uzumaki Naruto

For the rules and scenario, go here. This thread will contain only new information.

Naruto:
Naruto is at full power, healed to 100% after his battle with Kimimaro. No summoning and 50 clone limit. Clones cannot use Kyuubi chakra.

Shikamaru:
Shikamaru is at full power, healed to 100% after the fight with Tayuya. No restrictions.

Can Shikamaru's genius overcome Naruto or is Naruto too troublesome for him? <insert cliche catchphrase here>

again, the fox could cause problems. the question is, is the kyuubi chakra strong enough to break shadow possession. the answer is: yes. kyuubi chakra > tayuya state 2 chakra, so no shadow tricks are going to work for shikamaru. Also, without even factoring that in, shikamaru has to keep track of potentially 50 opponents, then shadow strangle them all, and I don't think he has the chakra for that.

I don't think he'd need to hit them all. He's smart enough to identify the real one by positioning and placement. Just like how he was able to tell Tayuya's doki movement by her fingers, and have it memorized in just a few minutes.

If Naruto is in fox-cloak, his use of shadow clone is no longer used creatively as much as offensively. And that plays into Shikamaru's tricks. The problem is, Naruto would be able to overwhelm Shika's Shadow Possession, even at close range, and unless he caught him for a second and and hit him in the chest with five or six kunai with exploding tags on them, I don't see a way Shikamaru can keep him down.

I see Naruto winning, but it's close and ugly.

problem: it's not possible to 'memorize' naruto's attacks, since he's unpredictable. neji's battle analysis skills are = to shikamaru's (not in overall intelligence, but battle analysis yes) and he could 'see' which naruto was real, and he was still wrong. every clone has the same personality and fighting style, so to pick the real naruto is a game of chance.

and naruto isn't going to hold back, and since he knows what shika can do, odds are he will begin the battle by immediately entering fox mode.

yeah naruto is to much of a fighter, If he even gets caught in shadow possession, he'll do what ever it takes to break loose.

Shika arsenal is pretty limited in terms of what he can do to naruto.
(I know where not using the anime and movies as material, but technically in a movie naruto broke out of shika's shadow possession with out even going ninetails.)

then why bring it up?

well, i just don't think shikamaru can keep naruto captive long enough to finish the job. he can capture him. heck if the match auto ended after shika capturing him for, say, 10 seconds, then he would win hands down. but that's not how it works. he has to knock out/kill naruto. his only real method of doing that is by choking him. strangling people takes time and before he even gets captured naruto may already be going foxy. and even if not, i think he would have the time to fox out while captured. when that happens, he busts out and shika is now completely out of options. both his jutsu are worthless. the best planning can only do so much in the face of overwhelming power. any damage done by kunai, shuriken and explosives outside of a head shot aren't gonna do much besides slow him down
