Comprehensive Rules Changes Blog - Mandatory vs. Optional and more

Rules, Rules, Rules. I personally don’t care for the word, but without them, we would all be nothing more than e-trolls and misanthropic deviants hellbent on destroying the portion of land we call home.

Today we will be discussing a few of the subtle, yet large changes to the rules.

Mandatory vs. Optional Are now Equal!

In the beginning, all effects were not created equal. We segregated our effects into Mandatory effects and optional effects. We deemed Mandatory effects to be the superior, allowing them to go first in every accord and timing. From Exchange of Jutsu to the Mission Phase, Mandatory effects pushed their wanton needs of going first onto us.

No longer! From now on, Mandatory effects and Optional effects are placed on the chain in any order the player wishes, with the attacker going first. This is only applied to triggered effects.

Attacker will add all of their Mandatory/Optional effects with the same timing to the chain (optionals are if you wish), and then the Defender will do the same.

Entrance cost for Reinforcements Matter!

Although already enforced due to Sasuke (State 2), Entrance cost for all Reinforcement deck type cards must be met when they are put into play.

This will be enforced more heavily as more of the Tailed Beast transformations for Naruto are shown, as the design is intended to allow Naruto to transform all the way up to putting the 9 Tails into play.

Do everything, or only as much as you can

If only mom and dad didn't force you to eat all of those peas and abided by this rule. From now on, in terms of the effect of a card. This is not applied to the cost required to add an effect to the chain.

I will use one of the more popular examples:

Sasuke Childhood states:

Quote:
Valid: When this Ninja is discarded due to the Showdown, moe this Ninja to its owner's Chakra area instead. In that case, discard 3 cards from the top of either player's Deck.
If your opponent has more than 3 cards in their Deck, then he works just fine. Under the new rules, Sasuke will now discard as much as he can. If your opponent has 2 cards in their Deck, he will discard those top 2 cards.

Now for one other example, also from Set 17:

3 Tails :

Quote:
Valid: When this Ninja's Team wins a Victory or an Outstanding Victory, you can discard 3 of your opponent's Chakras.
As with Sasuke, Now the mighty 3 Tails will be able to discard all of your opponent's Chakra if they have 3 or less.

Remember that this do as much as you can is only applied to effects. You cannot skimp out on Jutsu payment or remove 7 cards from the game infinitely with to give infinite damage.

If there are any questions, please feel free to post them in the discussion, which you can go to by clicking here!
