6 cards then 5 cards then... 4 cards

My friends and I came up with an idea for the start phase when you draw your first hand.
As you know, normally you draw 6 cards, if its no good you can reshuffle and draw 5, and finally 4.

We think it should be an official rule that if both players decide to reshuffle (we call reshuffling a "mulligan", like in casual golf when a player decides to re-hit his shot) then you can both re-draw 6 cards.

It has worked really well, often my friends and I both draw bad hands full of jutsus and high ninjas, so we came up with the idea.
So one person decides to "mulligan" and before reshuffling and drawing his cards, he waits to see if the other person will keep their hand.
If the other person is also discarding their hand, both can draw 6 again. If one person is keeping their hand, then of course the person calling a mulligan must draw 5, and so on.

So the normal rules apply as soon as one of the players decides to keep their hand.

So if both players "mulliganed" five times, each time they could have drawn six cards. As soon as one player is keeping their hand, the other player must draw 5 cards if they decide to again mulligan their hand.

It is rare for both players to mulligan together more than once or twice, as often enough one player will get the turn zero ninja they were after and they keep their hand.

Give it a try, it works well.
Cheers~

That sort of thing is done by players all the time.

The only reason I can see both players not drawing 6 is when one of them goes second and wants the opponent to be at 1 less card advantage.

Doesn't the player who goes second have the right to wait until the first player keeps hand before he/she decides to keep? Thus, player one mulls to 4 and player two decides that he'll manage with 6 when he/she originally wasn't going to keep his/her hand.

Anyway, outside of competitive I do the "both mull back to 6." I wouldn't dare try it in any chunin or higher event though.

He's suggesting making friendly mulls mandatory

I'd love the idea

My friend and I ended up mull'ing to 6 at least more than a couple times for one game during a local. I remember requesting we just mull the normal way due to time.

That being said, I vote no.

Post Friendly is good

Its been said that friendly is a cool deal and when we are playing for fun,(Non Tournament matches) we do it all the time. That can't be the case in a tournament, all rules then need to be followed to letter, no way you can change it any with out it being made official, so unless Bandai comes up with an official rule change, (it is plain to me that some players want their ideal hand every time they start) friendlly is cool but follow the rules in Tournaments or sanctioned events. Part of the strategy in building a deck is to build one that works and draws well even when you don't have an ideal hand. Lonewolf

but, this rule promotes bad deckbuilding as a player can load theyre deck with tons of high drops and then just friendly mull until they hit the best curve

good, but only for casual play
