Does Susano'o (Sasuke) affect opponent's ninjas in a way that allow Konohamaru Ninja Squad to protect Leaf ninjas against its effect?

I'm asking because it says your opponent discards 1 ninja, so does that effect still count as Susano'o affecting ninjas or does it create a separate condition?

n1537 affects your opponent. n871 would not protect against its effect.
