It is not insulting when you're literally following the exact definition of the words. People think it's insulting because they don't want to accept that their actions can classify them as anything that they don't personally want to be.
If I call someone unattractive, and they are quite literally physically unappealing to me, it is only insulting to them because they don't want to agree with the description that has been placed on them.
